It would be bad ass if I could get the opinions of everyone willing to give one on what the best driving songs are. Not necessarily bassy techno but something that makes you feel good while cruising. All music styles are fair game.

For driving fast:
Metallica-Fuel
Metallica-Motorbreath
Metallica-Breadfan (Budgie cover)
Motorhead-The Hammer
Motorhead-No Class
Pantera-Shattered (I once ran a red light blasting that song)
Mercyful Fate-Evil
Kyuss-Green Machine
Corrosion of Conformity-Heaven's Not Overflowin'
Incubus-A Certain Shade of Green
The Red Hot Chili Peppers-Give It Away
Black Label Society-Say What You Will
Brad Paisley-Mr. Policeman
Clutch-Pure Rock Fury
Megadeth-Mechanix
CCR-Lookin' Out My Back Door
The Cult-Love Removal Machine
Dethklok-Go Into the Water
Dethklok-Thunderhorse
Iron Maiden-The Trooper
And pretty much anything by AC/DC, except "The Jack." That song's boring as hell. And I love blasting commercial rap when I'm driving slow with the windows down. And I also love blasting Obituary and Morbid Angel whenever I drive by people with the windows down, but I have to frantically turn the volume down if I pass a daycare or playground, though. I'll elaborate on all of these if anyone wants me to.

I love listening to Sugar Ray's Floored album in the car (excluding "Fly"). There's a lot of heavy, racing type music - especially the first track, RPM. I think it actually just reminds me of playing Road Rash on PSX and 3DO, because three of their songs were on that game's soundtrack - Mean Machine, Speed Home California, and The Club.
I also love to listen to Compilation albums from the Chicago-based independent label, Positron Records. They have three "KomPosi" albums that are great background music.

I created four cds of driving songs: Daytime Crusing Songs Vol. 1 and 2, and Nighttime Cruisin' Tunes Vol. 1 and 2. The Daytime Volumes involve songs for cruising downtown, on the highway, and at the beach and shit.
Daytime Cruising Songs Vol. 1
1. Born To Be Wild- Steppenwolf
2. School's Out- Alice Cooper
3. All Right Now- Free
4. Crazy Train- Ozzy
5. La Grange- ZZ Top
6 Free Fallin'- Tom Petty
7. Lust For Life- Iggy Pop
8. Takin' Care of Business- BTO
9. Ramble On- Led Zeppelin
10. Life Is A Highway- Tom Cochrane
11. L.A. Woman- The Doors
12. The Boys Are Back In Town- Thin Lizzy
13. You Can't Always Get What You Want- The Rolling Stones
14. Stone Free- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
15. Jack and Diane- John Cougar Mellencamp
16. Paradise City- Guns N' Roses
Daytime Cruising Songs Vol. 2
1. You Shook Me All Night Long- AC/DC
2. All The Way- Connor Tkach (a buddy of mine)
3. Summer of '69- MxPx
4. Open Road Song- Eve 6
5. Sympathy For The Devil- The Rolling Stones
6. 99 Red Balloons- Goldfinger
7. The Impression That I Get- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
8. Pretty Noose- Soundgarden
9. Burden In My Hand- Soundgarden
10. Ride Wit Me- Nelly
11. Semi-Charmed Life- Third Eye Blind
12. Under The Bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers
13. Alive- Pearl Jam
14. Panama- Van Halen
15. Electric Gypsy- L.A. Guns
16. Fly Away- Lenny Kravitz
17. Come On Eileen- Save Ferris
18. Freebird (Outtake Version)- Lynyrd Skynyrd
Now Nightime is a little more organized. Vol. 1 you listen to when the night is young and the city is alive. Vol. 2 you listen to when you're driving home and the party's over.
Nighttime Cruisin' Tunes Vol. 1
1. Highway To Hell- AC/DC
2. Radar Love- Golden Earring
3. Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
4. Dragula- Rob Zombie
5. Highway Star- Deep Purple
6. Paranoid (Live)- Ozzy Osbourne
7. Bark At The Moon- Ozzy
8. Nightrain- Guns N' Roses
9. Whiskey In The Jar- Metallica
10. Kickstart My Heart- Motley Crue
11. Smokin'- Boston
12. Just What I Needed- The Cars
13. Rock Me- Great White
14. Heading Out To The Highway- Judas Priest
15. Boys Of Summer- The Ataris
16. In This Diary- The Ataris
17. Rock N' Roll All Nite- KISS
Nighttime Cruisin' Tunes Vol. 2
1. Like A Stone- Audioslave
2. I Am The Highway- Audioslave
3. With A Little Help From My Friends- Joe Cocker
4. Won't Back Down- Tom Petty
5. All Along The Watchtower- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
6. Summer Nights- Van Halen
7. School- Supertramp
8. Touch Me- The Doors
9. Singing In My Sleep- Semisonic
10. California Dreaming- The Mamas and the Papas
11. Paradise By The Dashboard Light- Meat Loaf
12. Anyway You Want It- Journey
13. Everlong- The Foo Fighters
14. Hotel California- The Eagles
15. Jungle Love- The Steve Miller Band

I think I basically covered it. In addition you should also carry Lynyrd Skynyrd's first two albums, a CCR compilation, all David Lee Roth-era Van Halen albums, Sublime's self-titled, Appetite For Destruction, Boston's self-titled, and AC/DC's entire catalogue.

There are a few songs I can't hear while driving anymore, because they make me want to speed up. Like whenever I hear "Paranoid" by Garbage, I have flashbacks to playing Gran Turismo 2.

If I'm in a fast, hurry-up driving mood, I throw on "Piece of Mind" by Iron Maiden, or maybe "Master of Puppets" (the album) by Metallica.
If I'm in more of a slow, Sunday-driving, nowhere I have to be kind of mood, "Here & Now" by America.
If I'm going horseback riding, anything by George Strait or Garth Brooks if I'm in a retro mood.

Lord,
Damn straight you include Open Road Song! Great beat, angsty vibe, and some of the best song-writing I've ever heard.
Josh,
That's extremely diverse, and I can't believe I've forgotten Mommy's Little Monster (really any SD works), Subterranean Homesick Blues, All Day and All of the Night, and Time of the Season!

We need something besides '80s metal on this list, and you picked some awesome ones. Special props for True Believers and Waterloo Sunset.

I've never heard of this one, only "Blue". Is it some alternate of this song, or some random studio session song?
I didn't even find it on the Smashing Pumpkins Fan Collaborative site:

Oh, and I love Walking Shade, quite possibly the best song on the album, next to the first track, All Things Change.
