For me, it depends:
If I am feeling physically tired or upset and need some pumping up, Iron Maiden is my go-to; specifically 'Piece of Mind' or occasionally 'A Matter of Life and Death.'
If I'm pissed off and feel like killing something, nothing is better than Metallica. 'Master of Puppets' is my go-to album, but cranking up the orchestrated version of "Fuel" from 'S&M' is my single favorite song when I'm pissed. Something about the interplay of vocals, guitar, horns and strings equals perfection.
If I'm feeling too wound up or jittery and need to calm down or escape from the world, nothing is better than America. "Here & Now" is definitely the best, but "Hourglass" or even "Complete Greatest Hits" are golden.
How about you guys?

If I am angry I listen to either Tool, NIN, Pantera, or Garbage.
If my heart is broken I listen to Joureny or Air Supply.

Angry / Pumped = Anything death metal, usually Hate Eternal or Cannibal Corpse, been digging Trivium lately too.
Down / Depressed = Antichrist Svperstar era Marilyn Manson, Slipknot or Early Counting Crows (fuck you I like Autumn and Everything after! )
Brooding / Moody / Scheming = anything by Brother Lynch Hung or C-BO and their ilk.
Happy = That Electric Eel song by MGMT, GWAR, Dio's Holy Diver, Nirvana.

If need something to relate to when I'm depressed, "Disorder" or "Digital" by Joy Division, "Breathe" by Depeche Mode, "The Big Come Down" by Nine Inch Nails, "5 Years" by Bjork, "All I Need" by Radiohead, and "Daphne Descends" are good ones. Come to think of it, pretty much anything by Joy Division is good to relate to during depression.
About six months ago, I hit a point where I was being betrayed by the people who I could trust the most, and I basically turned all my anger inward, which obviously isn't a very healthy thing to do. "Xxzxcuxz Me" by Crystal Castles, "Burn" by Nine Inch Nails, "Bodies" by Smashing Pumpkins, and especially "Declare Independence" by Bjork helped me channel that anger.
And, last summer, I basically entered a personal crisis, where everything I knew was turned upside down and I came pretty close to simply giving up everything. However, what made me stop was one song; "All Neon Like" by Bjork. The music is simply beautiful, catharsis in sound form, and the lyrics seemed random on other times I'd listened to the song, but it seemed at that exact moment in time that every verse Bjork sang seemed to address me directly. The song lifted me directly out of my slump, and ever since then I've always considered music to be my "best friend".
When people come to me with a problem, the first thing I always tell them is, "Never underestimate the healing power of music."

Tired, meh feeling- Neutral Milk Hotel's "In an Aeroplane Over the Sea" is a great album for weird moods.
Flat-out completely depressed- either the "Hospitals" or "From the Bottom" albums by Off With Their Heads are great. Relatable pseudo-suicidal pop-punk without any sense of pettiness ftw.
Pissed- blast the song "Argyle" by Bouncing Souls or "Wilkes-Booth Style" by No-Cash and jump around my apartment until I feel better.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

For just about ever extreme negitive emotions: Adiemus on super loud.
Very soothing and relaxing.
If you haven't heard of them, they are along the lines of Enya and Enigma, but 1000x better.

'Fall To Pieces' by Velvet Revolver and 'Just Feel Better' by Santana ft. Steven Tyler were my theme songs when I was going through my depression. I really like to listen to pseudo-Christian-pop-punk like Paramore and Switchfoot when I'm down too. When I'm pissed beyond all repair, it's always Reign In Blood. I sit down and ooze anger for 28 minutes.

I dunno, if I am angry (which is rare) I would usually rather listen to something chill. My collection is lacking a lot in the chill department, but some of the albums I listen to are as follows:
Wilco - A Ghost is born
This band always cheers me up, I think because Jeff Tweedy's voice is really relaxing, and the band is extremely talented.
Talking Heads - The name of this band is the Talking Heads
I guess I just like the Talking Heads a lot and I usually end up concentrating on the music and forgetting why I was pissed in the first place.
Peter Gabriel - So
No real explanation for this one, I just really like Peter Gabriel.

There are a few albums that I turn to when I need an escape, these include
1. Aerosmith(Greatest Hits)
2.Say Anything "Is a Real Boy"
3. Gatsby's American Dream "The Volcano
4. Any of Thrice's records
Gatsby's is a great band, if you haven't listened to them you should defineitly check them out. They have lyrics based on classic novels like "Lord Of The Flies". Say Anything is just crazy and Max Bemus is insane.

I particualrly enjoy listening to DragonForce's "A Flame For Freedom" when I'm a bit bummed/depressed. It just sounds so heroic and grandoise that it usually lifts my spirits up.

I don't know the general opinion of the board members here regarding my musical tastes but hell...nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I like to listen to Parliment-Funkadelic, E.L.O, and Thin Lizzy whenever I'm feeling down. I also listen to Earth, Wind, and Fire occasionally if I feel the situation calls for it.

You are a horrible, horrible person, and have lost any chance at friendship here whatso-fucking ever. Good job.
...Kidding, of course . I like EWaF, I don't know the others though. What genre are they? I may have to check them out.

Wow, I didn't think I'd meet a guy from TN here on the boards. Lenoir city isn't a bad town, it's just a bit backwards. Our library sucks though...
And yes, I live south of Knoxville. Nice to meet you.

Really? Most Maiden fans I've talked to call AMOLAD the worst Maiden album since the reunion. At least most of the guys on Metal Sludge (where I frequently go for unbiased opinion).

It's actually called Dollywood, but any way you look at it, it's still pretty horrible. Dollywood isn't too far away from where I live. I like to avoid it at all costs. Something about Dolly Parton just creeps me out.
I agree with you, they are my favorite artists to listen to whenever I'm feeling down or just angry.
