Just because your popular doesn't mean you need to appease every fan you have out there. When you start living for the crowds and for the fans thats when the shit goes right off the tracks because you aren't living for yourself anymore. It's not going to kill Miley Cyrus to not meet Radiohead. |
QFT, at least partially. Honestly, Miley and Radiohead are both wrong in this situation, but not for what happened backstage. If Miley liked their music and such, it's understandable for her to want to meet them since they were on the same ticket and were both already backstage and stuff. It's also understandable for Radiohead not to meet with people, because whatever story is being cited makes no reference to what their schedule was like for that day, so it's possible that they legitimately couldn't have met with her even if they wanted to.
It was wrong for Miley to then bitch about it on the radio rather than letting it go, but it was equally wrong for Thom to publicly state that she should grow up etc. rather than just stating that they weren't able to.

Fair enough assessment, I'm willing to go with that.

Unrelated to Miley Cyrus, but you know what I hate? Radiohead fans who say they love "every song but Creep".

Is there another situation like that where the bands biggest song is the one die-hard fans hate? I can't seem to think of any at the moment.

Metallica comes to mind. Most old-school Metallibangers aren't too keen on "Enter Sandman". I think it'd be a lot better if it was shortened. Let's see, who else? I think "Walk" by Pantera is one of their weakest actual songs (as opposed to say, "Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills", which was just Anselmo high off his tits mumbling and screaming into a mic). Everyone seems to love it, though. The fact that it's the ONLY Pantera song anyone ever seems to cover also bugs me, especially in a case where Fall Out Boy covered it and cut out the solo. I'd like to hear those tools try and play "Slaughtered" or "The Underground in America.' That'd be bad ass. Also, while not necessarily hated, I find "Breakin' the Law" is also immensely overrated, but I'm a "Painkiller" man myself. That's all I got.
My dislike for Radiohead has been mentioned before, so I'll leave it at that.

Metallica...yea I guess that's true. "Walk", I also find to be overrated, and have no idea how it got to be the bands biggest song, but I still like it. "Breakin The Law," yea, not one of their best, but I always thought "You Got Another Thing Comin" was the bands biggest hit.

Some Reel Big Fish fans hate Sell Out for that very reason. If I remember correctly, it's the only Reel Big Fish single to actually get in the top 40 charts in the UK. It doesn't help that Reel Big Fish only got a recording contract shortly after 3rd wave ska stopped being cool.

Enh...I thought about mentioning that, but I think most Zeppelin fans only hate the song nowadays because it's overplayed. Overplayed does not count.
In other news, I've thought about the Metallica situation and I don't think that counts. Because most die-hard fans thought Metallica sucked starting with the Black Album but Radiohead fans love everything the band have done right?

All I'm going to say here is that, if for some weird, unfathomable reason you do not appreciate "Enter Sandman," you are no longer my friend.

Radiohead is cool! I hate their music, but they're cool in my book for dissing artists who are even worse than them.

I absolutely HATE "Zombie" by the Cranberries. Drivel, drivel, drivel...
And I've never really been a big fan of "Paper Planes" by M.I.A.
...or "1234" by Feist.
Oh, and I don't particularly hate Creep, but I can see why other people would; it's kind of boring, and incredibly overrated.

I personally don't get those type of people. Megadeth is one of my favorite bands, and their most popular song is probably "Symphony of Destruction." It's not their best song, but it's an awesome tune nonetheless and I enjoy hearing it on the radio whenever it's on! Those people are annoying.
Also, there are the type of people who see someone praising one band's album which just happens to be their most popular album, but someone else starts being a dick towards that person. For instance, one person might say, "I love Dark Side of the Moon because it's one of Pink Floyd's best albums!", and another person responds, "Uhm, you do know they have other albums, right? They were making music before they got popular, ya know." Very condescending, to say the least.

Seriously? That song has just enough self-deprecating irony that I really don't see how people, especially purported fans of the band, could hate it.

I hate how "Clash" fans get mad and are like "Oh, I don't like Rock the Casbah, or Should I Stay or Should I Go because they are popular."
Fuck off. First off, Joe Strummer never flat out said "Hey we are a punk band!" He was obsessed with letting the band be considered a regular old rock and roll band, with a few reggae overtones every once in a while and they did an awesome job. Disliking a song just because it got popular is incredibly silly, no matter what.

I've never heard of this bogus trend until just now. What the fuck? Radiohead fans hating 'Creep' are just sucking up because the band hates it. I happen to really relate to those lyrics, and they almost bring tears sometimes.
'Enter Sandman'...I kinda hate. But before you get mad Hawk, I knew the words to the song before I could speak, and I used to run around the house singing it. So it's extremely overplayed in my life and if I never hear it again, I won't be too upset.
Fuck Radiohead, Miley Cyrus, and Kanye. They're all pompous, arrogant twerps who believe the headlines and Rolling Stone clippings. Fuck them all, why should we care about more celebrity hissy fits?

On a related note, Strummer was known to be psychotically devoted to fans, talking to and signing anything anybody handed him. Hell, he refused to get treated until the people outside the hospital all got autographs from him.

I am in no means a Radiohead fan, but you are right.
Plus, Miley Cyrus is just another teenybop creation from the Disney labs in Florida. Now it is the Jonas Brothers, and in six months, it will be someone else. They keep churning out these popular mindless robotic creatures once the previous ones start to fade.
FUCK.

Yes, seriously. Their first album was released under an independant label, and therefore only really got noticed by fans of underground music. And, as we all know, as soon as a previously underground band starts to get more public exposure and fans, the "true fans" throw a shitfit. In fact, Reel Big Fish actually wrote a song about it, called We Care (sorry, no youtube link, just a link to the lyrics).
