So I'm seriously not even kidding, let's try and start a band. Not like a 'band' band, but maybe we could try to collaborate on a song or two. We can see if it's even possible to accomplish it, as it would require us all to have adaptable computer recording equipment, plus we'd have to agree on a cover or write and original somehow...but it is doable musically. According to my knowledge, and the 'Who Plays??' thread, the instrument distribution is as follows:

Vocals:
Syd Lexia
Kris Lexia
Ross Rifle
Cam
Dr. Jeebus
glycerine92

Guitar:
Ross Rifle
Andrew Man
Knyte
anorexorcist
Blackout
Tsunami Red
IceWarm
glycerine92
Burt Reynolds
enshinkarateman
Bobashotmace
Nekramancer
Rycona
monachetti
Undeath
Greg The White
M3GA MAN

Bass:
enshinkarateman
Knyte
Valdronius
Tsunami Red
Ross Rifle
glycerine92
Bobashotmace
FNJ
Rycona
Undeath
Greg The White
Dr. Satan
M3GA MAN

Drums:
joshwoodzell
Ross Rifle
Knyte
Andrew Man
JRA
Rycona
Undeath

Piano:
Tsunami Red
Burt Reynolds
Rycona
Ross Rifle
Knyte
Andrew Man
Bobashotmace
Not Sure
King
Dr. Jeebus
Undeath
Cam

Other:
Ross Rifle- ukelele
Knyte- pedal steel
Valdronius- trumpet
M3GA MAN- double bass, flute, clarinet
Kubo- viola, cello
anorexocist- tenor sax
Optimist With Doubts- harmonica
MOGHARR- kazoo, bongo
Burt Reynolds- Ocarina
Shut Up, Dorn- trombone
enshinkarateman- ocarina
Bobashotmace- ukelele, recorder
IceWarm- Ocarina
King- tenor sax, alto sax, bassoon
monachetti- trumpet
docinsano- trombone
Dr. Jeebus- cello, clarinet, tenor sax, bass clarinet, tuba
Cam- xylophone/glockenspiel (pretty sure they're the same deal)
anorexorcist- cowbell!
Greg The White- banjo
GPFontaine- NOTHING.

So who's in? And who am I forgetting??

Aw, I am flattered Ross. You remembered! I actually just got 3 new crash cymbals and a brand new ride, so I can toss my shitty old splash in the goddamn garbage. Be aware though, I deplore using a double-bass pedal.

Hey!

I can't play an instrument, but I want in!

I'll find some way to participate...

I'm definitely down. I'll have some nice keys and at least a viable recording setup relatively soon. I can also do backups vocals, as I'm usually pretty good with harmonizing.

EDIT: If I need to fill in on a different instrument, which I doubt seeing the list, that wouldn't be a problem either. Basically, stick me where I'm needed. ^_^

It could be like an old Skynyrd concert or a rap concert where there is like 15 people on the stage some of whom have no real purpose as they don't seem to be playing anything or singing. We could be those people GP.

I say we cover Boats 'N Hoes by Huff 'N Doback

Woo-Hoo, I'm the first name on the Bass list! I'm down for it, if there's a practical way of making it happen.

Well, I can play the vibraphone, but I don't have a vibraphone on me.

You guys should do it like the game 'telephone'. One person can start with something (whatever it would be best to start with), then give the song to the next person who adds something else and so on.

I've heard of musicians collaborating like this through great distances. I'm not too familiar with the process or what have you, but if that's the route we employ (in terms of an original or viared cover), there should be some information as to how it's typically handled, just so we're not tripping over each other's instrument cables.

I could possibly sing. Maybe I could do one super dramatic line. Like could I sing: "Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you!"?

Krislexia could definitely do some vocals.

Syd, I didn't know you and Kris sang! That's kinda awesome. Maybe I'll start a poll or two (if that's ok). See if we should do an original or cover. I'm thinking the song would start with a drum beat, pass it on to bassists, then to guitarists, then to whomever thinks they can add something, then to vocalists.

I personally think that an original, maybe about the website, forums, or 80s/90s popculture would be best. It should be a collab, so if we could all enter some lyrics and someone puts it together, that'd be sweet.

Also, I use Audacity. Anyone else use it or a compatible program?

I have Audacity and to anyone that doesn't have any software Audacity is free and very viable.

I think we should start with a cover to feel out the basics of this process without the burden of too much creation. One thing at a time. If we do well with a cover or two, maybe then we can look toward working out an original.

Whoa, I didn't even notice the "Who Plays?" thread.

But for the record, I can play a tad bit of piano & xylophone, and I can do a spot-on vocal rendition of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness, so I'd say I can sing moderately well.

Ross... we shouldn't do a cover. We have so much talent, we should make a full original album!

Er... ok.. so perhaps we should start with a cover.

I'd be preferably up for bass, but could possibly do banjo in a pinch.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

K, so, from the looks of it, we can have a full 5-piece rock band, a backing vocal section, string quartet (if some can lay down multiple tracks), a decent horn section (we may need baritone sax though?), a full-on percussion section (GP, and I mean this seriously, maybe you can do tambourine, just so you actually DO have a part), as well as a multitude of ocarina players (which REALLY didn't surprise me Razz )

So maybe all you multi-instrumentalists can pick an instrument of choice, as we should really keep this to one each. For the guitarists though, it's very easy to layer guitars and have multiple solos (though this won't be considered until the original tune). Man, our song credits will read like Chinese Democracy's.

So yeah, I say we figure out who will play what, then we pick a song. It can be any song, and we can probably easily work out an arrangement for other instruments.

Thanks for including me. I'm not that good on the guitar but I do play a little at home. With two jobs it is hard to find the time to really practice.

Ross... can we have both the tambourine and anorexorcist's cowbell?

I mean... we always need more cowbell.
