Did anyone watch them? I sure didn't. I looked up the winners which leads me to further believe that this is a joke.
They didn't recognize hard rock or metal with awards but they will give awards out to shitty pop and rap? RAP? Some rap is good but there is no way it is more legit than hard rock and metal.
The only appearance of metal was Metallica in the best "rock" album, well no shit it didn't win, it's in the wrong genre.

Actually, Metallica won the "Best Metal Grammy" for "My Apocalypse". I don't think it was televised (I didn't watch them, though). The Grammy's are a fucking joke, plain and simple. They've been trying to make up for the clusterfuck that occurred in '88, that they've given Metallica the award every time they were nominated after the Jethro Tull incident. Hell, they even gave "St. Anger" a Grammy. That pretty much throws out all of your credibility.

Seriously, the Fresh Prince over motherfuckin' Public Enemy?

Vastly disappointing, as it is every year... however, there are some good spots.
They Might Be Giants "Here Come the 123s"
George Carlin "It's Bad For Ya"
Metallica "My Apocalypse"
So 3 things. Three things out of 40,000 categories isn't very good.

I swear, if you don't get played on a constant loop on the radio, you must not be a talented music artist. I don't mean that in a "BOO POPULARITY SELL OUT" way, I'm just saying that there are better lyricists and musicians than those performers whose albums are written for them.

I'm probably one of the few people who thought Death Magnetic was a boring album, at least compared to Metallica's earlier stuff, especially to the classic Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning albums.

The Grammy ought to be called the Shammys, cuz they're a whole lot of bullshit. They rarely, if ever, get anything right, and the performances always suck. I much prefer the American Music Awards. Why? Because fucking Queensryche played at the AMAs one year. Meanwhile, The Powers That Be gave Steely Dan a Grammy a few years ago for Best Album, which pissed me off for two reasons:
1. Steely Dan has always and will always suck.
2. No one except the people voting even knew Steely Dan released an album that year.
The only interesting thing to come out of the Grammys this year was that Blink-182 announced they're getting back together.

The Grammys are a shitload of fuck. You can quote me on this when I'm nominated too , since I'm too cool to win.

Agreed on the Dan. Wasn't there a line in "Knocked Up" that said something to the extent of "Steely Dan sucks my balls"? So true. It's always a pain in the ass to play "Do It Again" on Guitar Hero World Tour, because I can barely stay awake to finish the track.
I'm not even gonna lie, I'm pleased at the blink reunion. I'll catch them if they come to Texas, I just hope they don't play anything from their garbage self-titled. (There goes what's left of Enshin's metal cred.)

I happen to like those 2 songs Steely Dan did that one time.
But yeah, they suck balls besides that.

White America was not ready for Chuck Deez nutz.
Also, I went to high school with one of Steely Dan's kids.

Pop punk is a guilty pleasure of mine too. I think it started when a friend at college made me listen to Punk Goes Metal.

Punk covers are great. My wife used to have Straight Up by Halifax on her myspace. New Found Glory's From the Screen to Your Stereo is one of my favorite CDs I've owned.

Pop-punk is my favorite form of music, actually. It got a bad reputation and view when Blink 182, MxPx, Guttermouth, New Found Glory, etc. really blew up in popularity with their nasally vocals and vomit-inducing corniness, but I will always maintain my love of such bands as The Dillinger Four (best album of 2008), The Descendents, The Bouncing Souls, Screeching Weasel, and a bunch of others. It's a shame it's viewed as such a juvenile genre because of a few bands in the late 90's/early part of the decade.

Blink is getting back together? that makes me happy. I liked their self titled to an extent. The songs that got the most radio play and tv play I didn't like as much as some of the others. Take Off You Pants and Jacket and Enema of the State are great.

If you guys like punk covers, you should seriously go to my MySpace and check out my version of 'Crocodile Rock'. Very much inspired by The Gimme Gimme's and the many other punk covers I loaded all my middle school-era blank cds with.

The Descendent's are the best punk band to come out of the 80's. Period.

Coldplay deserved every award they got, IMHO.
Radiohead's performance was absolutely phenomenal (and they should've won Album of the Year. Lame.)
I got excited when M.I.A started performing, but then her song was taken over by an entourage of pretentious rappers. (Overrated Jay-Z is overrated)
I hated every nominee in the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
And most of all, why the f***ing hell was Jason Mraz nominated for anything?

Watching it on my laptop right now. Wow, did Kid Rock just quote Minor Threat? Somewhere, Ian MacKaye felt like he needed to take a shower, and he doesn't know why.

Obituary had a rap-death metal song, "Bullitary" that got a lot of flack from th close-minded, but I really liked it. It's not on YouTube, but I'm sure you could find it on SoulSeek pretty easily. In fact, I think I'll go do that right now.
Also, there's an entire genre of death metal called "Wigger Slam' which apparently has a hip-hop aesthetic about it. I don't really listen to it (unless Devourment counts), but Metal Inquisition has a bunch of posts about it:
http://metalinquisition.blogspot.com/search/label/wigger%20slam
And Greg, the Descendents got me into pop-punk, but I must say of the 80's, I prefer DK, Discharge, and Minor Threat. What Minor Threat song did Kid Rock quote?
