For me, Joy Division. I've heard so much hype from reviews as well as two of my siblings about this band. Lo and behold, I listen to a few of their songs and I'm completely underwhelmed; basically, they're The Clash, but with more depression. Oh, and the lead singer sounds like a combination of Kermit the Frog and Stephen Hawking.

Radiohead. I've never heard a more boring band in my life, and so many people fellate them.
Smashing Pumpkins, how I hate them so.
Nirvana, while I don't hate them, are very overrated.
In the metal world, I find Iced Earth to be pretty overrated, they just bore me.

Led Zeppelin- I am sorry, but I really can't stand them. I don't know what it is, but their music hurts my soul for some reason. I respect what they have done for music, but I am sick of people sucking their cocks.

Daft Punk- They might not be the worst band in the world, but no band can recreate the anger I felt when I first sat through Around the World. It is the first and only time I felt like my time had been wasted by listening to music.

Rush- I actual can enjoy Rush, unlike the other bands on this list, but the lead singer's vocals are just painful for me. Thus I can only barely understand why people like them.

London After Midnight- None of you will probably know this band, but they are fairly big... they also suck all kinds of ass

Girl Talk- I can enjoy a good mash up, I really can, but when there are five songs being played over one another at the same time, it is just too much.

I could go on, but I would be here all night

Honestly, I'm going to piss some people off, but I'd say Guns 'N' Roses are overrated. *hides for cover* I mean, "Appetite" is a good album, but GNR never really moved me the way other bands did. Of course, some people will probably say my favorite rock band, Rush is overrated, but that's their opinion and I'm fine with it.
EDIT: Haha, nihilisticglee beat me to it with regard to Rush. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Really? Honestly, you're the first person I've come across that doesn't at least think Radiohead is "okay"...intriguing. Is there a specific song that comes to mind?

Gah, despite what anyone and everyone says, their first album was CRAP. Around the World sounds like the kind of crap they play on America's Next Top Model. Their newer stuff is better, more prog-techno. Try "Prime Time of Your Life".

Oh, and I agree with Ross on Cannibal Corpse. I'm sorry, but "Entrails Ripped From a Virgin's C***" is just too much.

Obviously, there's "Creep", which annoys the ever-loving hell out of me. Then, when I was hanging with my friends, one of them put on their album "In Rainbows", and I hated it (and we went through about half the album). I couldn't name any songs, but trust me, Radiohead ain't my thing. I find their music to be EXTREMELY depressing, and I hate depressing music.
More of the metal scene, the Norwegian Black Metal scene is extremely overrated. Mayhem is 'meh', Burzum isn't too good either, even if I haven't heard much. I don't seek it out because Varg is a neo-Nazi dickhead who doesn't deserve my money. Darkthrone is all right, they're the best black metal band of that era, but they were better as a technical death metal band. And of course, pretty much all black metal after that sucks. Xasthur sucks especially.
Killswitch Engage is pretty overrated too.

Oh shit, we're definitely forgetting someone that I think even enshin will admit to:

Metallica. They just have way too many cocksuckers. I'm talking those Metallica fans that are like so die-hard it's stupid. Back in middle school I made a passing comment to some kid about them selling out and he honest to god jumped over the table and kicked me in the fucking face. So maybe I'm just bitter.

I'd agree with that. While Metallica's first three albums were superb, the rest of them (Death Magnetic excluded) ranged from sucktastic to mediocre. But the Metallicocksuckers to prove go be most annoying.

Black Flag is one I'm tired of hearing about. All of their vocalists and musicians have sucked, and they never really had anything decent to say. I guess that applies to about 95% of hardcore, but still...

I know I'll get torn alive for saying it here, but I gotta toss out Guns 'n Roses. They made two, maybe three good albums that basically sounded like Led Zeppelin and Metallica combined, and somehow gained the most rabid fanbase in the world. Axel's vocals are like nails down a chalkboard, and he insists on screeching way too much.

Agreed on both counts. I mean, I like Black Flag, but Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Discharge, and the Misfits were much better. Bad Brains are pretty overrated, too.
Also, the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Ramones. I honestly prefer the faster hardcore punk as opposed to classic punk.

Velvet Revolver. If anyone besides Guns N' Weiland had done those songs, no one would have cared.

But most of all, Rage Against The Machine. Some asshole who can't sing preaching ill-informed junior high politics over otherwise decent music? NO THANKS.

INXS was/is way overrated. I get the one song with the guitar lick, and I'm down with it being #1 for a week or so, but come on! That VH1 top 100 80s songs basically gave that song its virginity!

Nickelback. Maybe they aren't. They can blow a fat donkey choad.

Certainly, Hinder is overrated. Basically any "rock" band from 2000-present which has one semi-hit and milks it out for like four tours with one tour gradually less impressive than the one before it.

hmm...

They didn't make my favorite music, but I enjoyed it. I think that the hype for a GNR fan was huge... I'm not sure if the rest of the world gave a fuck though.

So was this a letdown to you because you like GNR or were they truly over rated?

I have to disagree on Rage. I love the band, and for me if anything I think they are underrated. Also, Mike Patton kicks fucking ass no matter what he has done, sure a lot of it is weird and out there, but I happen to like it. I think he is underrated as well, even though people that like his work are very into it, he isn't praised universally in mainstream media. All that being said, as much as I do like them ok, the Grateful Dead are way overrated in my opinion.

Agreed on Bad Brains. An obnoxiously homophobic rasta who sings like an insane chihuahua isn't very appealing to me. Also, The Sex Pistols were a yes for a while because everyone sucked them off, but they've been getting a serious backlash that they don't really deserve.

Honestly, I think The Clash don't get enough credit. Being a fan of them since fifth grade, the only people I've talked to that praise them just heard their three biggest songs, or just really liked that picture of Simonon destroying his bass. They wrote the best lyrics in punk (and I don't say that lightly), and Strummer was an under-rated singer who put more emotion and power into his lyrics than most classic rock idols.

Also please restrict any comments on death metal being over rated to those who have experienced it live, and I don't mean watching some shitty youtube camcorder crap, I mean in the pit losing your glasses going deaf live. For good live bands may I suggest Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Jungle Rot, and Deeds Of Flesh?
