I just watched this yesterday for the first time ever. It was the directors cut. WHAT THE FUCK?! That movie was all kinds of funny and I know it wasn't suppose to be. Please tell me I'm not alone in this forum by saying A.) The movie was confusing at times B.) The movie was ridiculous ALL the time and C.) Harrison Ford got really old since then...Crying

I agree on all counts.

I would probably like the original version with the voiceover by Ford, but it's hard to find. When I eventually get Netflix I'll try...

I like this movie but I can agree with the Harrison Ford thing, the thing that really doesn't make much sense at first is that at the beginning of the movie Harrison ford is forced into commission due to him supposedly being the best man for the job and then he literally bumbles through the whole movie and gets his ass kicked in almost every scene. His role only makes sense later when you realize that he himself is a replicant. Some people disagree with this fact and argue that this makes the movie make less sense. However, the director and writer of the movie has said that he is and there are multiple clues to this through out the movie. In my opinion it makes it a much more interesting movie when you realize that he is a replicant.

That makes it inconsistent and even more confusing to me. Also, I think Ford is right when he says them movie is better if Ford's character is human, because it gives the audience someone to identify with; otherwise, all the important main characters are replicants.

I think the main reason I didn't understand this movie is because there's a very high chance I fell asleep in the middle. All the I remember is Rutger Hauer acting like a crazy motherfucker, which is exactly how I want him to act.

It in what way does that make it inconsistent? And it is never downright told to you in any version of the movie that Harrison Ford's character is a replicant which is obviously intentional and allows the audience identify with the main character. But why wouldn't you identify with the main character because he is replicant? I think most people can identify with even the "bad guys" or the replicants that he is hunting. There are no bad guys in the movie besides maybe Tyrell and the Tyrell Corporation. One of the biggest themes of the movie is the question of what it means to be human and when you realize that Harrison Ford's Character might be a replicant that just brings that question up in a more interesting light.

This is one of my favorite movies. It's a lot simpler than many of you make it sound. And yes, Harrison Ford gets his ass kicked all the way through the movie.

I don't think he needs to be a replicant in order to explain why he got the job. He could have been human and the best man they have, but since he's up against the best replicants ever created that necessarily means he's going to get his ass handed to him. Anybody else might have fared much worse. And don't forget that he doesn't really want to do the job and drinks throughout the whole movie.

When I first watched the movie, I didn't realize Deckard could be a replicant and the person that I found most interesting and had the most empathy for was in fact Roy. When I rewatched it, thinking of Deckard as a replicant, I became more sympathetic towards him, because now he was just as much of a victim as the ones he is hunting.

I think both readings of the movie are equally interesting. You don't need him to be one or the other. This isn't a normal action movie were you are rooting for the hero to win and kill the bad guys. You don't need to identify with any of the characters on the plot level. They are all thinking beings confronted with their own mortality whether they're human or not. That's enough for me to identify with them.

The movie is much more interesting to me with Deckard as a replicant, the irony is awesome, like I said, you can argue it either way. It more sense to me that he is and given the society that the movie takes place in, it makes much more sense to me that they send replicants to kill replicants, due to them being "disposable".
