What are everybody's thoughts on Mastodon? I think they're probably the best metal band to come out of the new millennium. My main complaint with them is the same complaint that I have with Lamb of God, and that is the lack of solos. Other than that, they're an absolutely stellar band. Plus, any band cool enough to be animated into food items and appear in the Aqua Teen movie is cool with me.
What do you guys think?

Don't flatter yourself. But all in all, mastadon is alright. I don't like how they are billed as a progressive rock band, because in the end I just think its slightly crisper, more technical slude metal.

It's kinda tough to say. Metal-Archives classifies them as "Technical/Progressive Groove Metal", but there's a lot of sludge in their sound, especially on "Remission". You kinda have to listen and hear for yourself.

Honestly you look more like Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy. A white one might I add.
Mastodon are pretty damn good. There's a guitar solo at the end of "Hearts Alive," and Blood Mountain is chock full of solos. My one complaint is I recently picked up Call Of The Mastodon and all the songs sound the same.

What song did you check out? Mastodon has quite a few songs where clean singing is used often. Check out 'Naked Burn', or 'Seabeast'. There's a good deal of clean singing on 'Blood Mountain', but, as I just got the album yesterday, and as a result have only listened to the whole thing once so dar, I can't recall exactly what songs used them.

Capalirian Crest and Meggalodon are the two best Mastodon songs period. They rock, and i agree for straight up metal, one of the best bands of this century. The Instrument interlude on Capilirian crest where it switches time signatures... sounds like standard 4/4 to 5/4 (not to mention parts of the song that go to 3/4) is pure genius. Also, I think i've mentioned it before, but you look exactly like my friend, except healthier because your not a vegan.

When I was a kid I used to explain to everybody how they shouldn't be called Dinozords since three of them aren't actually dinosaurs. I was really into dinosaurs at the time.
