I'm not posting here for myself, I'm posting here for others... I already know the games that i'm recommending.. i can already play them and enjoy them, plus have teh games you listed... I'm merely offering an opinon, and if sometime in the distant future might be looked into, and put on the list for others... and if not at least you guys can try them out, and just enjoy them for yourselves, or if some time you wish to re-look at the list say in 5 years, when you update things, you might think about putting some of the games on, if you played them and liked them etc...
I'm not really sure how i'm getting a negative reaction... I'm not making anyone do anything here, just sharing some of my experiences, for others to enjoy, and consider...
Anyway for those questioning: Thanks a lot for compiling the list, i found it to be very helpful, and i've been playing games that i haven't played before off it, and I'm trying to get into startropics right now, we'll see how far it gets... If I don't think it, I think my next stop will be shadow gate, or maybe re-visit Zelda 2 since, i haven't beaten it before but got very close....
Thanks for you input, I'll probably stick around for a little while, and check out things, if anyone didn't get a chance to reply to this thread, whether adding your own games you like, or commenting on mine, go ahead.

Who, Char? Nah, Char's a'ight in my books. Though you can't say you're not retarded Char. Everyone is retarded..., by a frictional force. Having taken a course in mechanics, I have liberty to point out any person in motion and proclaim, "That guy is retarded."

Okay, okay, I concede to you, Valdronius. You're right. Also, I'm sorry I wrote that, Jon. I was just a bit pissed.

Wait wait... I'm confused, does that mean you are a retard but don't play Mortal Kombat, or does it mean you're neither a retard nor a player of Mortal Kombat?
Or, thirdly, you are a retard, but merely one not of the Mortal Kombat-playing variety?
Just askin'.

I believe it's a reference to a classic RegalSin quote. Spany called Regal a retard and he replied "The retard who plays Mortal Kombat."
UPDATE: Here it is.

No one is entirely sure. It is largely believed that:

2. He' s batshit crazy.

I've heard all the theories, but I'd love to hear more. My favorite is the "Regal is a sentient houseplant" theory.
Also, if you use Internet Explorer 6, get Internet Explorer 7. It is so fucking better than 6. Use this link:

Aha! I'm glad to hear that, because I was really surprised that it was mentioned but didn't make the list. It's an odd one (especially since the story is almost identical to GQ1's), but it's got real charm, and nobody makes platformers better than Capcom. It's a shame there were only three games in the series.
Since I'm here, kudos to Syd and company on a great list. You guys clearly put lots of effort into this, and I for one had fun reading it. My order would be different, of course, but everybody's is. (My top three are MM3, Metroid, and Zelda -- interesting that greeneyed zeke agrees with me about that last one beating SM3.)

GWAH! Zeke, I just checked out your site -- well, that is to say I checked out your latest 5-minute Castlevania, and it's very funny. More than that, I think we have a similar sense of humor...

Somehow I missed this thread, and I don't care enough to read the replies, so sorry if this has been said.
You listed like 20 games you want on the top 100 list. Thing is, if all those were on, then you'd be complaining about the games who got booted off for those ones not being on the list. You're going to say you wouldn't have, but it's a lie, trust me. Remember, we already saw someone say "Every game in the top 20 should be a top 10 game" as what he felt was a legitimate point of criticism. There's only so much room.
Oh, and in doing this article, I played Solomon's Key. That game SUCKS ASS. I'm completely biased in favor of puzzle games, and I wouldn't EVER play that piece of shit again.

If I had my way there would have been tons more sports game. But who cares? That's my personal preference, and everyone who played nintendo in the 80s as a kid had different tastes - as reflected by the wide assortment of views in Syd's review panel.

Is there a way to look at the entire list of 100 without that sequential nonsense where you have to go through chunks? I don't feel like reading a small novel on NES games when I'd rather just search and say oh, that's where Blaster Master was on the list.

I could make a page like that... I do still need to add a page with everyone's honorable mention picks, which I still haven't done either.

If you could like tetris you coudl like solomon's key... they're comparable, trust me /wink : )
Well I'd wager there were at least 20 games on that list that i havne't played, so i think it's easy for me to say i wouldn't complain if those were the 20 taken off : )
no but take off the bottom 20.. there were a few games in there i liked.. such as the unpopular but fun enough, Magic of Schererzade (sp)..
Also of all the games I listed i'd recommend trying these before all else: Gun smoke, battle toads double dragon, super dodge ball, Jackal, Tecmo Wrestling, Arkanoid (how could this not be there?), Super Spike Volley Ball, Street Fighet 2010, Mission Impossible, Anticipation
Solomon's key was one of hte second rate games i listed.. but pick one of those you haven't played and see what you think then... I think the games are funner without the cheating abilites and general controls that are on emulators. but if oyu have to use an emulator play it without cheating and go from there... (you don't have to of course, but I definitely think those games were enjoyably for me, and had some qualities that were better by a fair margin than at least some of the lower ranked games on the list.) Try Gun Smoke, a lot of the other games really shine in multiplayer...
Whatever it's not big deal whether any of these games are list worthy so-to-speak but i thought i might just share games i knew of that weren't on the list, and if you like it awesome, just thought i'd share : )

Dude, Skate or Die 2, the pinnacle of my childhood, it had all the stereotypical skater lingo of the 90's, a poodle killing, a guy named Icepick, and you got to ride arounbd with a gun! Not to mention the amazing music!
