I am an idiot. If you can find forgiveness, I humbly beseech it. Rob Halford is definitely a topnotch singer. 'Rapid Fire' (British Steel) and 'A Touch of Evil' (Painkiller) affirm this. I am checking out all of his stuff on YouTube, but so far I LOVE what I see. I apologize for my thoughtless words earlier. I want to thank you guys for introducing me to a rock great as Judas Priest; specifically Ross and JRA.
Michael Jackson, as he was in the 'Thriller' era, is a great singer too.
What about Scott Weiland? He has a great live vocal. One of the cornerstones of a great vocalist is their ability to sound ass-kicking kickass when performing live....
Chris Cornell was a quick pick of mine. Axl is definitely better, listen to 'Patience' and 'Don't Cry' for soft or 'Welcome...' and 'You Could...' for harder songs.
Harry Nilsson
Rob Halford
Layne Staley
Freddie Mercury
Mariah Carey
Celine Dion
Phil Anselmo (Cemetery Gates)
Dio
Danzig
Thom Yorke
Michael Jackson (Billie Jean)
Scott Weiland (Dead and Bloated, Plush)
[who sang 'One' by Three Dog Night? AMAZING VOCALS in that track]
Maynard James Keenan (The Outsider, Vicarious, Schism)

haha no problem man. I was also going to suggest 'Touch of Evil'. They played that live, and that part where he screams 'YOU'RE POSSESSING ME!!!', chills all down my body...a tear might have actually come to my eye.

And if that tear was well-earned, then all the more to them.

I feel honored and shocked that no one tried to tear apart my list of great vocalists. Does that mean my list is on point, or no one cares about what I think about music? Hmmm oh well, discuss, talk amongst yourselves.

Halford's singing at the conclusion of "The Sentinel" is one of my all-time favorite bits of metal singing. The whole Defenders of the Faith album might have been his best performance (well.....in my opinion)

I get the same feeling from the Priest Live album, during "Love Bites."
When he goes "Love Biiiiiiiiii IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITES!!!!!!!"
That seriously made me question whether or not the man is really human.

Enh....I don't know. Halford was doing alot of coke then, and while it didn't screw up his performances too bad, you hear a dramatic difference in delivery if you listen to Defenders Of The Faith and Ram it Down side by side (or hell, Priest...Live for that matter). On Defenders Halford sounds like he might choke up a lung, where as after he got cleaned up he delivered high notes with ease.

You have Aaron Lewis but not Sam Cooke. More FAIL than Elizabeth Smart.

True that I should have Sam Cooke, but if I were to list all of the greatest vocalists, the post may be too long to post.

That's true.....there's a pronounced raspiness in his voice during the 80's that wasn't there on Sad Wings of Destiny. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I kind of liked it, though. I thought it fit the album appropriately, as the entire DOTF album seemed to have a lower production value than the earlier British Steel or Screaming for Vengence albums. (I always figured that was intentional)

Again, to go back to JP... 'Dreamer Deceiver' is a BEAUTIFUL song. The vocals and the music juxtapose to create a perfect symphony of the 70's. Evanescently indelible. ; )

Axl Rose...really? He is one of my least favorite vocalists, his voice ruins otherwise very good songs for me, I can tolerate it through some songs but his voice is awful imo.
No, I am not trying to troll, I just can't stand his voice.
That being said I love Rush and The Tragicaly Hip and some people can't stand either Geddy Lee or Gord Downie's voices.

Skye Sweetnam...little girl with a big voice. She's got the whole pop-princess thing in her voice and songs, but there's also this distinct, gut-crushing raspiness to it, I love it.

Different strokes for different folks.
Carly Simon is a singer who I can't stand, but she is an amazing vocalist.

Hendrix and Alice Cooper. I mean, they may not be the most trained and accomplished, nor do they have impressive ranges, but their voices are just so...I don't know, they have 'it'.
