I've been a fan of Radiohead for years. Ok Computer was their quintessential album in my opinion for many years. It was near perfect, and every song was not just passable, but great, both on a technical and emotional level.
Anyways, albums have come and gone from Radiohead, all of which were good imo, but it seemed like they were trying too hard to discover a new sound, or maybe just find their place. Well, I've been hooked on their InRainbows cd for the last 3 months, and I would have to say they have found their place. Every song is great and unique in its own way. It seems like they found a nice groove. They seem less interested in finding something revolutionary, but working with what they know, and they've created something very natural and great, which is still pretty original and progressive. I was just wondering if there were any Radiohead fans around, and if they felt the same way about the new album. I don't have the greatest vernacular, and I'm not a great writer, and I feel that my description isn't adequate to describe this new album.
Also, I think their option of choosing how you want the album (CD or mp3) and choice of cost was a great step in music. It was an interesting social experiment, and i think the average amount they made off each purchase came out to about 9 dollars or something, which without a record label to pay, is probably more than they made off other albums.

Meh, InRainbows wasn't that great. My girlfriend, a huge Thom Yorke/Radiohead fan, said that she was not amused by that album. I haven't listened to it at length but I would rather listen to OKComputer because Paranoid Android rocks the dirt off my socks.

If you really like Radiohead then hunt down "Towering Above The Rest".
It's a 24 CD bootleg set, with tons of B-Sides, Demos, and Live Recordings.
You can witness the entire evolution from Garage/Punk Band. (Yes, Punk) to the Behemoth they are now.

I love Radiohead. I'm cool with the new album, especially Reckoner. I even made it my cool down song on Stepmania.
Also, Pyramid Song has to be the most fluid (ha) song ever. The video was pretty sweet too, and I think the "crappy" 3D even enhanced that. It's the only song that I haven't been able to nail down a set of time signatures for, which just raises its value and makes the song that much more a representation of the human experience.

Ok Computer and Kid A were the only two albums I could get into, everything before and after those just weren't as good to me. I bought In Rainbows (the actual CD) but it has yet to grab me.

Though I don't have any albums, I've found myself getting into them (along with Muse and Nine Inch Nails)...I think I'm gonna buy The Bends and OK Computer, because I love a few songs on each album.

Win. I love Muse. I really enjoy every song they've ever done, really.
As for Radiohead, The Bends is one of my favorite albums that I own. My Iron Lung and Fake Plastic Trees are two of my all-time favorite songs.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

The bends also spawned two of the greatest music videos ever made:
street spirit (fade out): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPX3u0XJzKM
and
Just: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5X7HKxpiQA
For me it's a toss up for best Radiohead album; between OK Computer and Kid A.

Everyone I know seems to think OK Computer or The Bends is Radiohead's best album, but personally, I have to pick In Rainbows; every single song on that ten-track album is just phenomenal ("All I Need" has to be one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard, if not THE most depressing). Come to think of it, all of their albums are at least great, in my opinion (with the possible exception of Pablo Honey).

I don't really see what the big deal is with the video for Street Spirit. I mean, sure, it's got some beautiful imagery, but it just seems like the concept for the whole video was "hey, let's take some things that look beautiful and throw them together as if they're supposed to make a coherent video."

I was into Bends one year, then I bought OK Computer with Christmas money and was bored with the first 3 tracks I never listened to either album again.

Karma police arrest this man he talks in maths
He buzzes like a fridge, he's like a de-tuned radio
Karma police arrest this girl
Her Hitler hairdo is making me feel ill
And we have crashed the party
This is what you get...
This is what you get...
This is what you get
When you mess with us
I love Radiohead

Yeah your opinion is pretty similar to mine. In Rainbows took me a couple listens to start really getting into it... but now I can't stop. I listen to that cd at least once a day. I agree All I need is a great song. I also really like Nude and House of Cards
It is rare for a band to actually keep the same quality, or in my opinion better quality, of music as they get older. First band that comes to mind is the Beatles. Their first couple cd's seemed like generic rock of the time, and then as they got older, their music turned into something special and original.
