They keep pimping this movie on TV, and it looks absolutely terrible.
Frank Langella is a great actor, but he doesn't look a damn thing like Nixon, and at times, his Nixon sounds more like Sean Connery than Nixon. It makes it hard to take what could be an otherwise interesting movie seriously.
I suppose he looks more like Nixon than Anthony Hopkins did, and I suppose no one will ever look like Nixon, but still, if you can't find someone who looks like the historical figure you're profiling, then you should probably give up.

Why not just get a good Nixon mask or something? I've seen them at Wal-Mart for ten bucks last Halloween.

Or they should team up with Pixar and make the Nixon movie CG.

Yeah because Paul Giamatti looked just like Thomas Jefferson.
Wait, he's an asshole, the mini-series sucked genitals, and he look's nothing like him. Shit, never mind.

Didn't Giamatti play John Adams?

Yeah, Giamatti played Adams in the "John Adams" miniseries on HBO. And they did a great job of making him look like him...Great series by the way, bought it for my dad for father's day this year.
I saw an advertisement for Frost/Nixon last night, and the impression of Nixon was awful - more than laugh-out-loud awful, but awful where you feel sorry for the person doing it that they may actually think that they're doing a good job.

I feel the same way on everything you said up there. Also why is Paul Giamatti an asshole?

People can't figure out if they like or hate Nixon so I guess they keep making movies until they get it right.

I really want to see this actually. I think it looks really good. And pretentious, asshole reviewers like it, so it might have some merit.
I heard that Nixon's line in the trailer, "Did you do any fornicating last night?", was historically accurate. I wanted to prove it.
I hope my school doesn't see my Google search for "Richard Nixon Fornicating".

hmmm... I don't think i would call it so much an impression as it is an interpretation. The actor isn't Nixon and just taking on what he thinks Nixon's mannerisms are just would make him a charactature rather he's gotta take what the script gives him and as someone who saw the play he's pretty damn good in it. People are expected to suspend their disbelief, he is Nixon because thats who he plays not who he looks like.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

I'm more concerned with how he doesn't sound like Nixon.
The Golden Globes gave Dark Knight only one nomination, so they don't have any authority in my mind. Hell, I didn't like them or the Oscars in the first place. The Chicago Film Critics Awards are usually more reasonable anyway.

It's like they based his voice off all the parodies of him over the years. He sounds like he's Nixon's head on Futurama.
"Who wants to party with Nixon?"

langella plays nixon on the play that has the same name. so ron howard just figured it would be easier to use someone who is used to playing nixon, rather than getting someone who is totally green
