This is a *list *of songs I would consider doing if I ever got to play an MTV Unplugged set. I'd pick one, but I'd have to do so at the start:
The Police - Message In A Bottle
The Guess Who - Undun
The Doors - Spanish Caravan
The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
The Rolling Stones - Play With Fire
George Harrison - Beware Of Darkness
The Scorpions - Still Loving You
What would you guys pick if you had to do MTV Unplugged?

Good topic. I'd be playing lead bass on my good ol' Dean Acoustic.
Foo Fighters-Generator (with me playing the lead guitar line on my bass)
Foo Fighters-New Way Home/Up in Arms (playing the solo on my bass)
Brad Paisley-Letter to Me
Derek and the Dominoes-Layla (With me playing the lead lick on bass)
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Simple Man
Down-Stone the Crow
Red Hot Chili Peppers-Under the Bridge
Rush-Limelight
Stevie Ray Vaughan-Texas Flood
The outro to Pantera-Floods, dedicated to Dime, played on bass.
My own composition on Acoustic Bass, dedicated to whomever I was dating at the time.
Metallica-Orion, dedicated to Cliff Burton
It'd be a long show, but I don't give a damn. All those songs mean the world to me, and to perform them acoustically would be awesome.
Though it should be noted that I hate MTV, and would probably refuse to appear on the network, and just film it independently for a DVD, or something.

Daft Punk: Around the World.
It would be epic. It would consist of 1 guitar riff and signing "Around the world, around the world, around the world." for 7 straight minutes.

I am afraid there is already an acoustic cover of this song...
No, really
As for my choices
The Airbourne Toxic Event - Gasoline
The Airbourne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight
The Airbourne Toxic Event - Does This Mean You're Moving On?
Flobots - Mayday!
Flobots - Handlebars
Flobots - Fight With Tools
Mindless Self Indulgence - Shut Me Up
but first I would have to, you know, learn how to play an instrument

Motley Crue - Without You
GnR - Don't Cry

I've thought about this long and hard, many times. I'd use this set for acoustic shows, and actually I sometimes play this set just when I'm up in my room bored.
Chilliwack Blues-Ross Rifle
Home Sweet Home-Motley Crue
Medley: Wild Horses/Patience-Rolling Stones/Guns N Roses
Medley: Blackbird/Silent Lucidity-The Beatles/Queensryche
Never Tear Us Apart-INXS
You-Switchfoot (or White Winged Angel-Ross Rifle):either dedicated to my friend Kyla.
I'm Eighteen-Alice Cooper
Medley: Only Women Bleed/Knocking On Heaven's Door-Alice Cooper/Bob Dylan
Sweet Child O' Mine-Guns N Roses
I Remember You-Skid Row
Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd
Air-Ross Rifle
Medley: Tuesday's Gone/Simple Man/Freebird (no solo)-Lynyrd Skynyrd

I don't dig on acoustic versions really. There is a reason the artist made it electric. This makes me think. I should make a topic on acoustic songs you would chose to do "plugged". I would do Blackbird by the Beatles, and would have a 4 minute shred interlude with special guest, thomas haake on drums. We would rework the time signatures a bit, and it would rule.

I think if I did a set it would likely end up rather depressing. Think Johnny Cash perfoming Hurt. One of my friends (who can play almost anything I can ask him to) used to do a lot of accoustic sets. Now he is in 3 bands, so he doesn't go solo a lot anymore. He would throw a lot of country in when he did it. I'm not sure what I would do (have to think about it a little more), but here is some of the stuff he used to do for his accoustic sets.
Down in the Boondocks - Billy Joe Royal
Amanda - Waylon Jennings
Seven Spanish Angels - Ray Charles/Willie Nelson
Feed Jake - Pirates of the Mississippi
The Heart That You Own - Dwight Yoakam
Thinking About Leaving - Dwight Yoakam
Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
Magic Carpet Ride/Ice Ice Baby - Steppenwolf/Vanilla Ice
Dust in the Wind - Kansas
Boys of Summer - Don Henley
Hungry Eyes - Eric Carmen
Freshman - Verve Pipe
Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd
There is quite a bit more. This is just what thought of off the top of my head. He usually took alot of requests too. After that, he always plugged in his Les Paul and started playing stuff like Gimmie Shelter, Little Red Corvette, American Woman, etc. Usually somebody random would hop on the drums, bass, or another guitar and it would turn into a jam session.

Seems to be a favorite 'round these parts, for good reason.
I can't believe I forgot "Tiny Dancer", by Elton John. I'd do it Dave-Grohl-on-The-Late-Show style. That'd be pretty fun.

I think he does Tiny Dancer too. I just can't remember if he did it in his solo accoustic set or if he does it with one of his bands.

Has 'Dust In The Wind' ever been done on an Unplugged? If not, then I pick that ftw. Free Ballin' by Petty would be funny, at least that's what I'd call and do it as.

Yeah, he did "Tiny Dancer" solo, which is what I was referring to.

I would add 'No One Knows' by the Queens of the Stone Age and 'Badinerie' by Johann Sebastian Bach to my list.

At the risk of sounding like a hipster douche, I would choose from among these:
"Regulators" - Warren G. (Translates very nicely to acoustic guitar)
"Informer" - Snow (Just for laughs)
"Straight Up" - Paula Abdul (Awesome bass line)
"Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" - Warren Zevon
"Slackjaw Jezebel" - Gov't Mule
"Owner of a Lonley Heart" - Yes (Would definitely need a good rhythm section)
"Leave Me Alone" - Michael Jackson
"Denial Twist" - The White Stripes
"Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
"Pencil Thin Moustache" - Jimmy Buffet
P.S. What the hell is lead bass? Unless you're Spinal Tap, why would you need two bassists?
