Not just here, but on Sludge and elsewhere.
Maybe Paul McCartney or Ringo will finally croak if these people complain just a little louder.

I have never liked the Beatles, nor do I understand their appeal. There are so many other artists from that time period who sound the same if not better and have better songs/lyrics/music.

This started about the time that hipsters thought they could look cool by talking about how "overrated" popular bands are by saying they "suck." People just need to look at the fact they pioneered a lot of famous musical movements, had extremely talented lyricists and compositions, and were just a flat-out good band.
Are The Beatles the best band? It's subjective, but I'd say no. Can they be not liked or are they overrated? Certainly, depending on your view. Do they suck? No, and get fucked you hipster douchebag (Slint sucks).
EDIT: And yes, the wrong two Beatles died first.

I'm not going to say anything about the best band except that the Beatles aren't my favorite or the best band but I love most of there songs. I can name 2 off of the top of my head that I could deal with listening too for the rest of my life in place of other music from them. Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles and I Am The Walrus - The Beatles.

They aren't my favorite band, but they're definitely great. Paperback Writer rocks the house.

Someone on here claimed that The Beatles were "glorified children's music." I'm not opposed to that presumption, and I think a lot of the "influence" they had dealt more with behind the scenes and business type stuff. But they do have plenty of songs that I like.

I love The Beatles. Paul's Boutique is their best album.

I do think they are awesome. But for me, Beach Boys' Pet Sounds tops anything The Beatles have ever done. If we're talking English Invasion, I like The Kinks just as well. Hell, I like Oasis better.

I'm with Greg on this one... Music majors love to talk shit about how overrated and terrible mozart was, and gamers with the whole its cool to hate ff7 stuff. When something reaches a high level of praise or popularity, the hipsters are always going to be there to talk shit, because it's cool to not like popular stuff.
That being said, I really don't care for Beatles early works (hard days night etc), but I love their later works like the white album and Sergent Pepper.

I can appreciate the Beatles and what they did for music. They had some really goofy songs and some experimental stuff that was unlistenable, but they wrote some truly great songs and they were nothing if not creative.
I hated them in the mid-90s when the Anthologies came out. There was so much Beatle dick-sucking going on back then that it was hard NOT to hate them. I used have a saying that Nirvana, The Sex Pistols, and The Beatles were the three most overrated bands of all-time. I've backed off The Beatles, but I stand by the other two.

I agree with The Sex Pistols. They suck in every sense.

In my mind The Beatles are the best Rock band of all time.
For me, regular Rock and Roll isn't my favorite genre. I am a fan of Hard Rock, and GNR is more my style. To get back to the point though... The Beatles made amazing music and a lot of it. Granted, they had their fair share of crap too, but overall they put out a tremendous amount of quality music.

I see what you are saying. The Beatles had an amazing influence on music in general. The amount of quality songs in their catalog is insane.
But for me, I think the Stones are probably the greatest band of all time.

I don't think it would be a stretch for me to say that there are more great Beatles songs than there have been great songs this decade so far. No other artist even comes close to the tremendous amount of classic songs the Beatles released during their run.

Syd a twist of Irony is that the Beatles were one of Kurt Cobain's favorite bands, and he really love John Lennon, but guess that is a given.

I gotta say, the Stones probably surpass the Beatles in number of classic songs. Of course, it's not fair to compare the two because the Stones put out classic albums for another 10-12 years after the Beatles broke up and managed to record some pretty good stuff in the 20+ years after that.

I just could never get on the beatles bandwaggon. I can see them as good musicians but just not something that is overly great to me like it is for some people.

I love The Who. The Stones, Aerosmith, The Who, The Beach Boys, and maybe Skynyrd or CCR would be my short list. But my faves are still GNR and Van Halen.

I have always been a Beatles fan "Rubber Soul and Revolver" era mostly, and I will never bash them. But a lot of their later crap was just rubbish, and rushed out of the studio so they could support whichever drug habit they were into at the time. I still think the White Album is extremely overrated, and lyrically, I thought they confused being obscure or vague with being deep. I don't think they knew what the fuck they were talking about half of them time either. George Harrison's 70's stuff was better lyrically and musically then anything the Beatles did between 64-70.
