...well... somewhat.
My favorite movie is called Forbidden City Cop.. It was a Stephen Chow film from way back. It had some truly unique villains, cheesy special effects, awesome fight scenes, and a story to match it's craziness. It was a comedy, of course, but they took it just seriously enough.
Well worth buying.

Copland is often referred to as an Eastern, because the story line is similar to that of classic Westerns, but it takes place in 1990s New Jersey.
Anyway, Copland rules.

Fantasy Mission Force.
Let's see:
It takes places durring World War 2.
US Grand General Abraham Lincoln is kidnapped.
A Rag-Tag group is assembled to rescue the hostages, but instead just want to steal the nazi gold.
The Nazis look like a gang from Mad Max
There's a haunted house.
There's a wire flying tribe of amazon women.
The movie opens with a musical number.
Oh yeah, and there is a really young Jackie Chan playing a small supporting role.
What else could you want?

Hidden Fortress, the samurai movie that George Lucas roughly based Star Wars on. And Seven Samurai, the movie that every major western (literally) was based on. Both directed by Akira Kurosawa. This isn't kitschy shit, check it out if you like classic film and haven't seen these.

If we're talking Eastern's as in Samurai flicks, which i consider pretty much their equivalent to a western, then I'm going to go with Lady Snow Blood and Lone Wolf and Cub. If any eastern movie will do, I really like Ichi the Killer.

Eastern Promises.
It has the "Eastern" in it, and I liked it, so I will go with that.

I think he just means movies from the "Far East", which would emcompass Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, India, and all other films from that side of the globe.
Though, if it was only Samurai films, you can't wrong with "Seven Samurai", which was retold in an american western known as "The Magnificent Seven".

The American live action movie was TERRIBLE.
And anime should be disqualified, since this thread was made in response to the Western thread and all the great Westerns are live action.

Agreed. I just had to correct Bomberman's assertion that there were no Fist of the North Star movies.

The second one DarkMaze linked to is the FotNS I was referring too. I think it's funny as shit and highly re-watchable.

So...where were the lawsuits?
And the sequels? Like RoboStandupcomedian, RoboRockstar, RoboPornoman, RoboRabbi, just to name a few.

Dude, there are no lawsuits for foreign rip-off movies. Hollywood doesn't bother because it's not profitable.
Besides, many are just different enough that there's nothing they could do anyway. Hell, no one's sued the American studio The Asylum over "Transmorphers," "The Da Vinci Treasure," "Death Racers," or any of their gazillion other knock-offs.
