Great song, but can anyone explain what is supposed to be about? Confused Every time I hear it I picture everything literaly and it really doesn't make any sense.

Dude its Ronnie James Dio, all his songs are about demons, knights, dragons and or the devil. Have you ever seen the video? Pure magic.

Yeah I swear he was just singing on a roof top or something, I was just wondering if there was any point besides the fantastical imagery. Black Sabbath's Iron Man doesn't really make any damn sense, but same thing awesome imagery is evoked.

Iron Man makes perfect sense. It's about a guy who gets shot to the future and sees apocalypse. On his way back to warn mankind, he gets turned to steel, in a great magnetic field. He tries to warn people, but they won't listen to him because of how he looks, so he goes apeshit and causes the apocalypse he was trying to prevent.

Ronnie was on the rooftop in the 'Rainbow In The Dark' vid. I don't think I've seen the 'Holy Diver' video though.

In the anthology booklet, Dio explains that the "Holy Diver" is supposed to be a Christ-like figure wandering from town to town, but when he's done preaching, the people of that town want him to stay.

How this ties into "Between the velvet lies, there's a truth as hard as steel" I have no clue.

There are a lot of what if's in life Donny. What if I hit you really hard in the face, knocked yo shit to the back of yo skull? What if I....had you girl gargle my nuts? The fact remains, you are a fuckin mutant.

Possibly an alusion to the concept of ruling with an iron fist that is camoflauged with a velvet glove? Confused

I always thought it was about a Navy SEAL chaplain who discovered a long lost species of giant tigerfish.

A program director working for Clear Channel Entertainment apparently thought that "Holy Diver" was about jumping off a building and added it to a list of songs that he thought Clear Channel stations should avoid playing after 9/11. This list eventually led to much media furor when news outlets began reporting that Clear Channel had expressedly forbade its stations from playing any of the songs on the list: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/radio.asp

Cartoon Network decided to temporarily suspend Gundam after 9/11, then when they got the rights to Gundam SEED they edited and chopped it to all hell. Seriously, ONE battle per FIVE episodes? And then they canceled it because it got bad ratings. And then they canceled the contract to bring Zeta Gundam to broadcast. And I'll never forgive Osama for that.

Cartoon Network also refused to air an episode of Cowboy Bebop in which a building exploded because of 9/11.

They reedited Power Rangers so the monster of the week didn't destroy any buildings. iTunes carries these edited episodes. I felt super ripped off! Bleating and Babbling

In his review of the 2002 Powerpuff Girls Movie, Roger Ebert criticized the movie because of a scene where the girls, not understanding their powers, begin playing a game of tag that result in massive damage to several buildings, cars and streets (but no people). Ebert called the scene extremely distasteful, citing 9/11. But that was the how the TV show went too. Townsville was often razed in fights between the girls and the villains, only to be magically rebuilt each week.

A 2002 movie is different. I bought the Green Ranger arc in like early 2006! I'm less traumatized by 9/11 now.

I didn't read the first post, so now I have no idea was this thread was originally about.

I really hope it was made for the purpose of talking about songs that relate to natural disasters.

There never was an image here, what the fuck are you talking about?
