Depends on what you mean by better. Countries like Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea and Germany are better than the US in a lot of ways.

That really depends on what you like and dislike. There is certainly no country really better than any other country. I mean there are some countrys wich are bascially war zones but taking that aside.
I like living in austria, i don't feel like moving anywhere else.

226 years (since the Constitution was ratified), 43 peaceful transfers of power, 0 autocratic despots, 1 civil war. Plus the legal right to tell the President to fuck off. That's a track record no country in the history of ever can match.
Still, Josh is right. This topic won't go anywhere productive.

I was just having a bit of fun because that's how it feels everytime someone responds to someone who thinks America is the best. Anyhow:

The criteria for awesome country is how awesome the stuff produced comes from that country.
USA
1. Space - Man on moon
2. Power -Atom Bomb
3. Film - Hollywood (First Blood, Jaws, StarWars, ChinaTown, etc.)
4. Music - Juan Atkins, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson, etc.
5. Internet
None of the countries you listed can compete with that. What have Sweden and Switzerland even produced that people give a shit about that changed the world on that level? America just wins because we brain drain all your countries. And let me just say that South Korea isn't even the best Asian country in the world (Japan obviously - Videogames [note: the domination, not invention of the artform], Roland TB-303, cd players, etc.).

North Korea is better than the US at starving, oppressing and brainwashing its people, as well as making empty threats and building shitty nuclear warheads. They've also got a better handle on ironic naming (I mean, the United States of America is pretty much exactly what it says on the box. But the Democratic People's Republican of Korea? C'mon, that's clever).
So yeah. I think that makes North Korea better than us.
All hail glorious leader Kim Jong Un!

1.Space - Man on moon - thanks Wernher von Braun! (German who easily could have spent the rest of his life in jail for crimes committed while in the SS) He was the architect of the Saturn V rocket that sent men to the moon. Without him it might not have happened until much later, if at all and it probably would have been the Soviets on the moon.
2. Power - Atom bomb - Project "Tube Alloys" from the UK started it and later merged with the Manhattan project. The Uranium came from the Belgian Congo and Enrico Fermi, an Italian, as well as other Itlalian, German and British scientists played more of a role in the development than the American Oppenheimer, who was the head of the program. Without those people, it would have been Germany or the UK with the first Atomic bomb, possibly even Imperial Japan.
3. Film - Hollywood - no argument there
4. Music - no argument here either
5. Internet - The internet would not be what it is without the World Wide Web, which was invented by Tim Berners-Lee, who is British. If it were not for him, the internet would only be used by goverments, news organizations and schools unless someone else came along and invented the World Wide Web or something similar.
Also, the US is a nation of immigrants. Without other countries it would never be as great. I think that is the most important point people miss when they talk about how 'great' America is.

Music - John Cougar Mellencamp
I remember when I was a kid in the early 90's seeing other kids at school wearing those t-shirts that had Proud to be an American written on them. Ah, the good old days.
Personally, if I had enough money and could live anywhere I choose, I would be very much inclined to try settling down in the Netherlands, possibly Amsterdam.

thats debatable
the british do have arguably the most iconic and influential bands in rock n roll
Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Radiohead
but America is home of the blues, jazz, folk, rap/hip hop
you cant deny how big of an influence American music culture had on the world including influencing many of the iconic bands that came of the UK. How many rock songs are based off of blues core progressions and scales? or have a stong jazz influence??

Our roots music is second to none. But jazz, blues, folk and gospel (the real root of almost all American music) aren't really rock and roll. I just think that the Brits have better rock bands and move the genre forward more often than ours do.
I'd even argue that we lay all the groundwork. Hard rock wouldn't have existed without the basics that we created, and it wouldn't have evolved into punk and metal without the help of 60s garage rock. Still, UK bands are really really good at taking that next step.

4. Music - Juan Atkins, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson, etc.

These three are all debatable.
1. Yes, going to the moon was an amazing accomplishment (unless you believe it was faked), but the Russians were the first to go to space, so they really laid the foundation for Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
3. Perhaps, but there are incredible foreign films out there. Studio Ghibli alone (and a few other anime studios, but mostly Ghibli) makes me like Japan's film industry more than America's.
4. I will say that America is my favorite country in regards to music, but many people will argue that the U.K. is in fact the best musical country. You have Classic Rock like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, Heavy Metal like Motorhead and Black Sabbath, Punk Rock like The Sex Pistols and The Buzzcocks, Alternative Rock like Oasis and The Stone Roses, and more. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The greatness of U.K. artists is their ability to adapt to literally any genre and make it their own. And that doesn't even include other countries that have great music scenes, like Japan (X Japan, Shonen Knife, The Boredoms, etc.) and Australia (Violent Soho, King Snake Roost, AC/DC, etc.).
