Any chess players here? How good? (I'm average)
What are the best places to play chess online? (I'm currently playing on pogo.com)

I play, I'm probably rusty as hell at this point. I used to go to the local pizza place and play with random people once in a while.
Funny story, once I was trying to get to know this girl from my german conversation hour, so I asked her if she wanted to play a friendly game of chess. She agreed, but then another guy and a girl, presumably friends of hers, were sitting on her side of the board taking 30 minutes per turn to deliberate exactly how to beat me. It was pretty dumb. I ended up losing.
I came back to the pizza place a day or so after, and I saw just the guy that had helped the two girls, alone. I asked if he wanted to play...he agreed, and I stomped his ass.

I love chess. I have a decent number of chess sets, for being poor. I'd have another dragon-based one, but the guy at the store gipped me out of it after I had put $50 down on it. Fucker. Doesn't matter, his store went out of business a few months after that. Here are some pictures.
These are all of my sets and books minus one set.
This is my favorite chess set. My Uncle Steve gave it to me years ago and it's a bit worn. I really hate that my brother lost a black pawn.
I'm about average in ability as well. Tests on Chessmaster have shown my strategic chess abilities to be in the 1400-1500 range. I love to play, but I rarely have anyone human to play with. I play online occasionally on either playsite.com or at yahoo.com. I actually like yahoo.com better, because if you're playing a non-rated friendly game, you can save it to come back until later and you can back track as far as you'd like, which is handy if you're teaching somebody something or if you're going through positional possibilities. If anyone would like to play chess with me sometime, let me know.

Let's do it Rycona, me and you.
I'm terrible at chess. I bet you'd set some sort of personal record for easiest win.
Catch me on AIM, let's talk.

There never was an image here, what the fuck are you talking about? |

Are you referring to that D&D chess set with the all-dragon sculpts Rycona? Also I play both Chess and have really gotten into playing Go as well. Not sure how good I am though.

I don't think it was D&D, but it had dragon pieces and the board had dragon heads at the corners of the board. It was badass and I should fucking have it.

I used to play all the time, but it's been awhile. I remember back in college I had a 4-way chess set, and me and my buddy used to sit down in the commons area and challenge any and all who wanted to play us. It was alot of fun. I was a decent player at that point, and then a short time later I moved into a new place, and found a box in the closet that the previous tenant must have left behind. Inside it was a the book "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess." I sat down and read it over the next few days and it completely changed my out look on the game. It made me a much better player too, although I am by no means a wizard.

Lava, let's play. Right here, right now. For everyone to see. I'll probably lose because I was never great to begin with and I'm rusty, but it'll be fun. Oh, and I get to be white.
Kings pawn to king 4.
Your move.

I love that book. Sometimes it's nice to just go through and review the checkmate puzzles.

Here's my move :
1- ... e7-e5
We should finish somewhere in March
I'll also play anyone online. I played Chessmaster too and am about as good as Rycona.
Just tell where and when if you wanna play (preferably not on the forum, unless you want a thread of 300+ posts)

I got this native friend, and all he does is smoke pot and play chess. It's really sad, cuz he spends his lunch hours walking around challenging people, but he's so sick good that no one will play him. It's all he does too, he has no other purpose in life. Once he skipped school to go challenge people at another school

That's king's knight to king's bishop 6 for your move. That'd be an awfully big leap for your queen's knight!
Queen's knight to queen's bishop 3.
And now when I get home it's time for me to set up a chess board with our game on it, like wealth, old men of the 1800's playing chess via the pony express.

Argh, I suck at giving notations when I'm black.
I'll post both notations every time then.

Indeed, notation is harder when you're the black player.
King's knight to king's bishop 3.
You weren't REALLY planning on queen to king's rook 4, were you? I may never have been that good, but I wasn't THAT bad, lol

I didn't plan that Queen move, because unless you fall for it, it's a pretty weak move.
I'd be stupid to let you attack my Queen so easily.

I had class until 2:15 today and have another class at 6 (there was another break in between too other classes too). This 4 hour break isn't long enough to justify driving back home then back to campus, so I have nothing better to do as it's early in the semester and I have no schoolwork yet.

King to King's knight 8 and King's rook to King's bishop 8
Castle king side

I think this is pretty cool too. Hopefully they'll manage to finish the game.
