"It didn't seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original."
Series producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that an all-new Zelda is in development for the Nintendo 3DS. Aonuma says the game will be closer to console games than to previous DS Zelda titles.
"We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don't think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS," he told Portugese site MyGames. "We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles."
According to Aonuma, Nintendo is also still considering a new version of Majora's Mask for 3DS, but would rather release an all-new Zelda before another remake.
"It's something I'm asked about often and I assure you that it is something I've spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn't seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original."

I'd still really really love to see a remake of the FIRST zelda from the NES days. I can't stand that game because it's on an invisible grid.
Majora's mask was tight, and I liked Wind Waker was really good too.

that'd be cool too, especially with all the metroid style inspiration to draw on these days. But I'm pretty sure nintendo is done doing non-3d zeldas, sadly.

Yeah, I'm probably going to break down and get a 3DS in the future.

Nobody should have to break down to get a 3DS. You should just want one.
I'd be happy with any Zelda game, but I was kind of looking forward to a release of Majora's Mask because I've never played it.

I'm definitely more stoked for a full fledged game rather than another remake. I dunno if I mentioned it or not, but upon hearing this news, I'm rock hard.

I'll get more excited when I find out a release date. It will probably be 2-3 years from now.

I wonder if it'll continue to use the Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks style or if it'll take a completely new art direction.

I wonder if it'll be Steampunk. Even if Spirit Tracks wasn't, it certainly took steps in that direction.

I think Spirit Tracks wanted to be steampunk, but they were afraid to stray too far from the classic Zelda formula for fear of backlash.

I don't know what was wrong with Spirit Tracks...I just know I stopped playing it. It may have had something to do with the fact that Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game because of the sailing and the graphics, then Phantom Hourglass came out and was still fun sailing with sort of the same graphics, but not. And then Spirit Tracks just dropped the sailing entirely...yeah, that's what annoyed me. We'll go with that. I think they should make a 3d sequel to Link's Awakening. I think I would have to have the games babies if that happened.
