A friend on Facebook tells me that I should try to sell my unopened 3DS, buy another at full price days before the cut, price match it at Best Buy or Gamestop, and enjoy the benefits of the early adopter bonus and the reduced price. Will this work out?

Actually, I did bring it up. I'm sure I did more than once. The second one I bought was for my little brother, who still uses it regularly; I use it myself once in a while, but not enough to justify opening mine. I held onto mine in the hopes that something will happen later that will give me reason to open it and I want to keep it pristine until that day. So far it hasn't, and I never intended to sell it at first unless something came up that I needed the cash. That hasn't happened either, but the allure of the possibility of saving $80 is too much. I did all of this under the assumption that it would be difficult to find one after launch like the Wii was for months, but there are still 3DSes in stock in every store that carries it, so I just look like a fool in the end.

That, and this actually goes back to September 2009, when my sister lost my DS Lite and promised to replace it one day. It's July 2011 and she has yet to make good on her word, so I had her promise to pay in part for a 3DS when that came out. I didn't trust her to, so I just bought one with my own money anyway and hid it from her. She still doesn't know that I have one in storage, so whenever she decides to pay back what she owes me, that's more reason to not open it and risk her thinking that she doesn't need to pay me back. We have a history of this that I would rather not discuss here.
