From http://www.cracked.com/article_18801_9-video-game-easter-eggs-that-took-years-to-find.html

Quote:
In 1991, a guy named Chris Houlihan won a Nintendo Power competition to have his name included in an official Nintendo game, the absolute closest Nintendo Power could get to bringing someone to orgasm. That might sound like good fun if you were born in the 90s, if you didn't know that Nintendo of America's localization team hates fun.

But the NoA Grinch-based debugging team removed the entrance to Chris' room in the North American version. Fun fact: Chris' room only appears in the North American version.

So one team put it in, and their neighbors took it right back out. The two teams continued to put it in and out like it was a video game programming orgy, except passive-aggressive and aimed at making a child cry. So basically, exactly like what a video game programmer orgy would be like. Most entrance methods require insane combinations of explosions, superspeed and sudden falls. But it was all worth it, to find ... this.

I had no idea this existed. Going to fire up my LttP and see if I can find it myself.

Pretty crazy backstory to it.

It's more for the Easter Egg and the Novelty than the actual Rupees.

I still think that kid got the shaft for having to be the guy to tell the player that they nearly crashed the game.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

The last one is my personal favorite, falling into the room where the final fight is only to find the Houlihan room

It's a clever way to deal with game errors, that's for sure.

BTW, it's only in the SNES version. They took it out of the GBA one.

Wow, didn't know there were people who didn't know about this.

Also: the physical room is in the VC version, but the voice recorder has been removed.

I found it before I learned it was an easter egg. What do you mean by voice recorder? I never heard anything, just saw the text box.

That's what he means, it's technically a voice box since Sahasrahla and others speak into it to record messages, you just don't hear it.

The boxes "talk" to you. The specifics are semantic.

That article was okay until the end. Controlling the Duck Hunt duck at #1? Everyone knew that shit. Everyone in Wakefield knew it, anyway, and it was in the damn instruction manual. The author's assertion that it was minority knowledge is highly dubious. Anyone who didn't know about that and ownrd a cartridge with Duck Hunt on it doesn't deserve to be able to call themselves a gamer.

This post might be a little off topic, and might be better as its own thread but this topic reminded me of an interesting glitch.

I have a favor to ask if anyone who has a SNES and a copy of LttP. Unfortunately I no longer have a either the system or the game,

I attempted to Google search a particular bug that one of my friends and I used to mess around with back in junior high and couldn't find any videos of it.

As I recall the bug was pretty simple to recreate. it involves using the super bomb to open the wall to the fat fairy at the pyramid in the dark world while repeatedly entering and exiting the item sub menu as fast as possible. Again this was a long time ago, but I remember the bug occurring pretty frequently (about one out of every three to four tries).

If done correctly the screen will get pixel splashed and the sprite atlas will corrupt resulting in the enemies having the parts of other enemies, and other effects such as Moblins throwing arms instead of spears, and giving the ability to dash through walls to unreachable content.

I swear I am not making this up. I am really interested to see if someone could attempt to recreate this bug and/or has ever seen this before.

thanks

I remember accessing the Houlihan room a few times as a kid. I also have a distinct recollection that Nintendo Power published an article or otherwise on the matter; their advice was to start the game at the Sanctuary and rush as quickly as possible to the Hyrule dungeon hedge entrance. This worked a few times, but not enough to warrant a completely reliable way to enter the room.

Not the most reliable, but definitely the easiest to attempt.
