Anyone who has played Ocarina of Time on Project64 or some other emulator for it may know about a Gameshark cheat called the Beta World, but there's very few (I personally know none) that have ever used it. However, for several years I've been using this cheat and it's yielded some pretty interesting results.
It's not technically a Beta World, contrary to the name. It's actual a play-tester version of the same game where they turned off all of the entrance and exit "portals" so that if you, say, exit Hyrule Field through Kakariko, you'll end up in the Goron Shop instead of the village.
Normally this wouldn't be so exciting, but there's more to it. When Ocarina of Time was released back in whenever, Nintendo wanted to make the Christmas release date to boost sales. In doing so, they left a lot of crap in the game that was never supposed to be found. Naturally they turned those areas off by removing any portals to and from there, but using the beta world cheat can get you into those places. I've seen a map where you can test sounds by moving over different colored tiles and a map where you can experiment with different types of terrain, like water and slopes and whatnot.
In short, have any of you ever toyed around with this feature of Ocarina of Time? If so, what experiences do you have with it?

Oh, actually, the main reason I started fooling around with it is because of this website:
The site in general has some really cool stuff, but the specific page is found in the Ocarina of Time section under games in the part titled Gameshark Blowout 2000 (no specific pages, it's a weird website, I guess). But it gives the codes to start Beta Quest yourself and even detail a few adventures there and some cool stuff you can find.

I have played around with those beta codes in Project64. I didn't find anything that wasn't accessible in the usual game. I had to use the world select Gameshark code for that.

I wonder why the programmed this in the first place? Maybe to test something out? The sound that the lasers make are awful but i like how it crashes into the ground when Link defeats it.

The Arwing was put in to test Z-Targeting and never removed.
I love the Arwing cheat, although playing as Dark Link is pretty cool as well. And the L to Levitate cheat wins simply because of it's extreme helpfulness.
EDIT: I remember VideoGamerX's debug cheat. That was some fascinating stuff. And I eventually learned that crashing the game in different ways gave you different debug screens. There's an e-mail address hidden in it, too. All of that weird stuff I find really interesting.
EDITAGAIN: The debug rom has a lot of rooms that Imanaged to find when I was jacking around in the Beta Quest. That's interesting... I'm going to check this out.

Well not even a speed run is only a fun way to show every little gameshark thing off. Also camtasia is pretty spiffy and can be found "cheap" on the internet.

I have seen that before, but I could never hunt down a code for the ROM of Zelda OoT I have (there's three versions: v1.0, v1.1, v1.2. Four if you count Master Quest and five if you count the 3DS OoT) I had a copy of the v1.0 ROM, due to my habit of preferring the earliest revisions of Nintendo games, mainly due to the higher amount of interesting glitches (such as sword-less Link)
