Absolutely amazing. Words cannot do it justice. If you have the chance to see the show in Chicago, do it.

They started off with the main theme from FF8, and it was instant awe for me. Then conductor Arnie Roth said a few introductory words, then played a song that needed "no introduction" and the orchestra played the victory theme, to uproarious applause.

The first half of the show was great, albeit with four pieces from FF8. They played 'To Zanarkand', a swing version of the Chocobo theme, and some music from FF5. (I don't remember everything they played, I'm just going from memory).

I felt it lulled a little after intermission, probably because they played a couple pieces from FF11, which I'd never played. It picked up when they did the FF7 main theme, the Theme of Love from FF4, and an orchestral version of Eyes on Me.

Then Roth announced the last song and I got worried, until the three opera singers came out to sing the Maria and Draco from FF6. Twelve minutes of pure awesome. At the end of the song there were only about a dozen of us that gave a standing ovation, but it was rectified by the end of the show.

Anyway, Roth left the stage, applause continued, he came to louder applause and played Terra's theme while the show credits rolled over the scene of the three Magitech Armors marching on Narshe.

Then Roth left again, more applause, he comes back and finishes with what eveyone already knew would be the finale, One-Winged Angel. After that, everybody was on their feet clapping for a good ten minutes. The singers came back and bowed and all was well.

The orchestra still hadn't budged, so most of the audience stayed put applauding. Eventually, Roth came back, played the victory theme again, and the show was over. I think it would have been better if he had saved the victory theme for the end, but overall I have no complaints.

I was so pissed that I missed that when it was in Minneapolis... Anyone know if they have any plans for more tours?

Well the place IS in the middle of a rain forest lol. (No but seriously, Ft. Lewis is close to Seattle, and the training is five weeks long. There is a statistical 0.0000% chance we won't be rained on, staying in that location over that amount of time.)

Have you guys heard of The Black Mages?

Nobuo got his buddies together to form a band that plays all the great stuff he wrote for the FF titles over the years. Straight from the horses mouth, or fingers I suppose. They've 3 albums and play all the stuff you want to hear. I highly suggest checking them out if you havent heard 'em yet.

And this is why I love youtube. Without it there's pretty much no way I was ever going to get to see Distant Worlds or pretty much any video game concert.

If it's Final Fantasy related, chances are I've played/heard/snuggled it. The music is half the game experience for the series as far as I'm concerned.

And yeah, The Black Mages == Awesome.

Just got back from the one in Washington, DC. It was pretty awesome. The Maria and Draco opera was really good. I highly recommend seeing this if possible.
