Reading the comments from this video, this would be black metal? But it sounds slightly different...I can't put my finger on it exactly.
Sounds beautiful through...
Then there's this..
Again, another good song, but would this be considered metal? Not that I'm trying to be a genre whore or anything, I'd just like to know.
Help me out metal heads!

I would classify it as "I ripped my vocal cords and this is the only note I can hit" Metal.

It is black metal, I like dimmu borgir quite a bit. They are atmospheric black metal. This is coming from a big black metal head.

The version you've got there is a bit of a Faux Pas amongst old Dimmu fans. Thats from one of thier earlier albums which was alot grittier, alot rawer in terms of production. Thats what black metal was back then, but as it evolved, new bands started to deviate from the norm and began to favor a much clearer, crisper environment. Dimmu were one of these bands who started to leave the older style behind and embrace the more lavishly produced style, enter the Faux Pas. Thats a re-recording of the old album, in the more modern style, and some of the more die hard fans boycott the shit out of it.
Nothing wrong with good 3rd wave Black metal though, so if you're enjoying that you should check out the "In Defiance of Existence" album by Old Mans Child. OMC are the sideproject of Dimmu's guitarist Galder, and that album is probably thier best. You'd also likely enjoy Graveworms "Engraved In Black" album, particularly the track Legions Unleashed.
Top 3 bands of the week

I really hate their new sound, although I do think M8L8TH does good with their "new" sound.
