I just got back from New Mexico where I saw the for-mentioned bands.

The show started out with Testament who where... well... just awful. I really can't see the appeal in the guys and it was annoying how after every song the lead singer would say in a raspy voice "fuck yeah."

Next came the main attraction - the stars of the show - Megadeth. Megadeth has always been tied for my favorite band with Metallica, and they delivered. It just so happens that it's the 20th anniversary of Rust In Peace, which is one of the best albums of all time... and they played damn near all of it to my delight.

They started with Holy Wars, then Hanger 18 and Rust In Peace. God, it was amazing. But they didn't only play from Rust In Peace. Thy also did Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells and a bunch of songs whose names I don't know. They played Head Crusher off of their new album Endgame, which is my favorite from it. All and all amazing. It was also nice that Dave Mustaine wasn't a dick like that guy from Testament.

After Megadeth Slayer was up... but we left. Today's Slayer isn't the same 80's Reign In Blood Slayer it once was... I don't even know if theirs more then one original member in it.

All in all, while I didn't like Testament and left before Slayer, Megadeth carried the show on their own, and seeing them was well worth the money. They are still touring the country (I believe the two bands who aren't Megadeth change from venue to venue) so if you get the chance, go see them. It's not to be missed.

Slayer was pretty boss when I saw them at Mayhemfest last year. Also what are you talking about, I'm pretty sure they're back to their original line up again, or did Dave Lombardo leave again?

Yes it is. Its exactly the same, which is why Slayer are such a cheap and annoying band. In 30 years they have not bothered to change the 3 or 4 basic riffs and song structure that they've been using since the beginning.

Slayer fuel and fill the ranks of all those annoying "Metaller-than-thou" and "metal is the ONLY kind of music that anyone should listen to" style of morons. Not suprisingly, its these morons which other morons from different social circles like to use as prime examples of why metal is a terrible and threatening thing.

Aside from that though, I've heard Megadeth are always excellent live. I'll have to get to see them one day. Do you know who Dave had with him on guitar? I know he was touring with Eidolon's guitarist Glenn Drover for a while, but I've no idea who's with him now.

I went to this concert last weekend and I have a few things to say:
1. You left before Slayer? Slayer was awesome.
2. In St. Paul, Megadeth played Rust in Peace from front to back. I actually liked how they performed Dawn Patrol - they turned down the lights and filled the stage with a putrid green mist, that floated about halfway through the crowd before the song ended, and someone dressed up as Vic came out on stage during the song.
3. Christ Broderick played guitar.
4. David Ellefson played bass (awesome).
5. Testament was not awful.
6. There are better songs off of Endgame than Head Crusher. 44 Minutes and Dialectic Chaos, for example.
7. Slayer has the best new music of any of the three bands IMO. Hate Worldwide was totally awesome. I think Testament has the worst new music of the three. It seems kind of like they are making a transition (or hybridization?) from Thrash to Death.
8. I agree that Megadeth alone was worth the price of admission.
9. Current members of Slayer are Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King, and Dave Lombardo. This is the original lineup.
10. Today's Megadeth is not the same as 80's Megadeth, there are only 2 original members (and David Ellefson came back to the band only recently). They are still awesome. Slayer is also still awesome (and has the entire original lineup).

I don't personally agree with the Slayer hate, although I won't say your analysis is inaccurate. It's true they haven't evolved all that much since Seasons in the Abyss came out in 1990. And it's also true enough to say that Slayer is one of the bands that gives metal a "bad name." I guess my stance is that I wouldn't really want Slayer to change. I have so many fond memories of listening to them through high school, and I still love to rock out on the air drums while listening to Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy.

I enjoyed your use of the expression "metaller-than-thou." These are the people who piss me off.......the ones who scoff at those of us who prefer clean vocals, or who think that power metal is "pussy metal" or sling other various insults. The metalness of metal is not measured by the level of distortion on your power chords, or how deeply your singer can growl. I can't put into words what metalness is measured by........but when I get a tingling sensation down my spine and I have an overwhelming urge to extend my pinky and forefinger, I know it's metal.
