Like many other people i grown up watching old school nicktoons, (cartoons from nickolodeon), and many of them, in my opinion were flawless. So i got to thinking, which one is the best out of all of them?

what i mean by old school, pre-dates Invader Zim

anyway if you ask me i think its a toss-up between: Rockos' Modern life and Rugrats.

What is Angry Beavers? I've seen all of these except for that, and I don't recall any show by that being in that same general timeframe.

It wasn't on Cartoon Network, but it didn't come out until 97, while the rest came out at least several years beforehand. I don't think I was watching a lot of Nicktoons after 97 or so. The wife and I still catch Rugrats at 3:00 am when it comes on here, but Rocko gets my vote.

"Old School" compared to which group? For a moment I thought you'd ask the like Looney Tunes, Popeye or Hanna Barbera stuff.

What meant by "Old School" if it came out between: 1990-1997

By old school Nicktoons, he meant old school Nicktoons, Nicktoons that are older than the current generation. None of the things you listed are Nicktoons, since Nicktoons refers to cartoons released on Nickeloden during and after the '90s.

Personally, I can't choose between the ones on that list, I loved all of those shows. I loved Rugrats less as time went on, and trying to watch Doug again after so many years is almost embarassing, but my love of Rocko, Ren & Stimpy, Real Monsters and Angry Beavers has only grown with time. Especially so since it makes for awesome late night viewing when I can't sleep, nothing else on at 2-5 AM is any good. Gotta love the Nicktoons channel for that.

Easily Rugrats for me, followed by Doug. The other cartoons I tried to watch at least a couple times, but just couldn't stand. Not my thing.

That show freaked me out! Thought I was the only one who remembered it! That wasn't a Nicktoon though. The Nicktoons started in the 90s with Doug, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy. The Nicktoons were the first cartoons produced exclusively for Nickelodeon. In fact, those were some of Nickelodeon's first original programs in years.

Nickelodeon's first original program was Pinwheel, which was also the channel's name from 1977-1979. Aside from that, most of Nickelodeon's programs were syndicated cartoons such as Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse and Spartakus and the Sun Beneath The Sea, as well as live action shows imported from Canada. The main exception to "no original content" rule during the 80s for Nickelodeon was game shows. Double Dare and Finders Keepers being the two most famous during this period, with Guts, Nick Arcade, and Legends of the Hidden Temple taking over in the 90s. As the 80s ended, Nick was flush with cash and began producing the Nicktoons as well as live actions shows like Roundhouse, Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains It All, Hey Dude, and Welcome Freshmen. Despite the success of these shows, only Clarissa was renewed for more than 2 seasons.

I can't just pick one, Ren & Stimpy Rocko's Modern Life and Rugrats are equally awesome. Doug was stupid.

Don't watch the new "adult" version, he basically ruined them, although it is much better animation.

I already saw it. It's okay, but the original is way better

I love ALL pre-2001 Nicktoons. All of 'em. Therefore I'm not voting in the poll. Yes, even CatDog, where some people say the "fall" kinda began, and yes, even Rocket Power, which I hear bad things about today.

Nick and John K should just have make up sex where R&S is concerned. Back then, they were like Yin and Yang, the balance of power. Without one, the other veered off into suckiness. (ex: R&S seasons 3 and 6 which were mediocre, and APC which is a terrible shit of gross and shock humor just for the hell of it.)

EDIT: Hey Arnold isn't in there.

Rocko FTW!

There are a lot of adult references in that show that I didn't pick up on as a kid. Like how they always ate at Chokey Chicken. Or that time that Ed Big Head came over to try to get Rocko and the gang to start a bowling team, and they were playing a boardgame where they were spanking a monkey. Or the title of the one where Heffer joined the sausage cult was "Shnitheads".

Man I love that show.

It was close between Doug and Rocko. Doug had a profound affect on my development I feel, I miss when cartoons could actually teach you things about life. I had to go with Doug.

I know Pete & Pete is not animated, but it has a similar feel to Doug, loved that show. They just don't make em' like they used to.

Also Syd. Welcome Freshman was great.
