If Syd ever took me on as an outside writer, this probably would have been the first thing I wrote: a year by year review of heavy metal at the Grammies. You may find quite a bit of his style here. Hell I'm practically expecting a lawsuit from him for plagarism.

"Why: Seriously, what the fuck is this shit? Four albums up against one song? And the song wins? Probably because it was a Queen cover"
Was 1991 not the year the year that Mercury died or it was the Queen Tribute Concert?
Still Megadeth should have won.
"Because I hate the Deftones with a passion. Goddamit what an awful band. Not only is the singer one of those awful Phil Anselmo clones, he doesn't even sing in sync with the music! "
Wow wow wow.. what the fuck's this shit.
Firstly White Pony is a fucking masterpiece. Secondly Chino Moreno:
1. Sounds nothing like Phil Anselmo
2. Did NOT draw any inspiration from him.
Unless your going to say that he raps and stuff your point is just stupid. Chino sounds more like Morrissey - who is one of his actual influences than Phil.
Hell what are you even basing this on - cause he screams?
I will also point out that Deftones where making music while Pantera were in their shitty hair metal stage.

Yeah, plus Metallica's version of "Stone Cold Crazy" sucked ass.

It didn't suck, but it certainly wasn't good enough to be picked over entire albums which are classics. Shit, I wouldn't pick the original over Persistence of Time, let alone Painkiller and Rust In Peace.

Ozzy Osbourne - He is seen as the presenter of the Grammy Awards in which he gets angry at the Simpsons for winning the "Best Hardcore Thrash Metal Act" Grammy then bites the head off one, just like he did with a bat in a live concert. This was a parody of the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrumental going to Jethro Tull, rather than the expected winners, thrash metal band Metallica.

I can't stand the Deftones either. Other bands I can't stand include 311, who are just as boring but not as loud.
Meh, Deftones have good music, but their singer is weird sounding.

Also, what's with the Rob Zombie hate?
Where did I say I hate Rob Zombie?
Edit: I do call him a worse evil than Korn in 2003. That is kinda harsh. Maybe everyone's seething hatred of the Halloween remakes has worked it's way into my subconcious so I hold disdain for him.

I always liked Rob Zombie because he was fun to listen to. Korn and Deftones were boring because I imagine them being just like the majority of their fans. Perpetually scowling, overly emotional and relying on awkward garbled screaming.

I like later Korn, the post-Follow The Leader the stuff, because they started taking themselves less seriously. And because they alienated all their whiny, self-pitying fans with it.

Agreed. He got way too techno. White Zombie kinda did, near the end, there, too.

I guess the Grammy people decided that they screwed up in their pick of Jethro Tull over Metallica, and decided they should just make Metallica their default choice forever.
Megadeth not getting a grammy for Rust in Peace is ridiculous.

Somehow, I think Metallica have long gotten over it by this point.

Metal Grammies have less than two fifths of fuck all to do with metal. That shit is so processed and filtered by mainstream media and marketing that at the end of the day, not only does the actual music of nominated artists have no real standing whatsoever, the entire thing is a knife in the fucking back of the genre anyway. The whole point of metal since its conception was that people within the metal community are collectively fed up with futile struggles for number 1 radio hits that all sound the same, with having to conform to whats socially acceptable as a good song or tune, and the whole focus instead of being on the music, is shifted to who is more popular.
You will only ever coincidentally see a decent band involved with that kind of shit, the rest of them are too busy writing new music and pushing the limits, out playing shows to people that respect them and thier music without being told to.

After perusing the wiki article all I have to say is WTF is up with Soundgarden and fucking NIN and fucking Tool and The Deftones and Korn and fucking Slipknot being on the list? Most of the bands are great, but not metal. Fucking Ministry? They're not metal!

Because not enough bigtime greasy slob businessmen were managing Carcass, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Immortal, or Running Wild.

I heart Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray. I don't heart Gamma Ray quite as much as Helloween though.
You guys should check out Helstar if you're not already familiar with 'em. They've got an album called Nosferatu that is absolutely overflowing with awesome riffs..
