Over the weekend, comic book writer Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, The Flash) revealed on Twitter (spotted by Mel Valentin) that DC/Warner Bros is “hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed!” I’m guessing this is one of the WB’s possible answers to the fastly approaching series conclusion of Smallville. Johns also announced that they “have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes’ scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome.”
Here is a note from Johns:

I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Blue Beetle’s introduction way back in INFINITE CRISIS. I’ve said it before, but thanks to the BLUE BEETLE series launched by Keith Giffen and John Rogers with a great design by Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes rocks. Great character, great story, great look. He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…but check out some stills. Pretty cool, huh? We’ll be bringing this short clip to San Diego Comic-Con and playing it in as many DCU panels as possible so everyone gets a chance to see it. |

I would really, REALLY hope that they'd do a better job than Smallville. I can't stand Smallville.

I'm probably the exception in that I think Smallville is pretty awesome (at least it is now) but I'm really excited for this.
I KIND of wish the other Blue Beetle (ted kord and the other guy) would get some notoriety, but I doubt it.
also, DC make a question TV show (vic sage) it'd be fantastic

You mean Dan Garrett, the first Blue Beetle? To be honest, he kind of sucked. For my money, Ted Kord was the best Blue Beetle, but Jamie has promise, and he's Hispanic, which'll make the network happy unless they give him the Prince of Persia treatment.
A Question TV show would be pretty awesome, but at the same time, they'd definitely have to ratchet up the show's rating to really justify it in my eyes. It'd need a very gritty tone.

First, go see The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox. Then, when it gets to the nutty FBI agent, listen to his voice. That guy (Jeffrey Combs) did the Question's voice on Justice League Unlimited.

Oh, I know who Combs is. I've seen all the Re-Animator movies, amongst other things, and he's a great actor. I just don't know if they'd be able to have him in the actual series, considering he's in his mid-fifties. I wonder who they'd cast for Jamie Reyes in the show? Probably one of the werewolves from Twilight or something, knowing the WB.
