Man, I've always been like, aware of the White Stripes, but a couple months ago I put on Elephant and it just blew me the fuck away, and I listened to it for a couple weeks. And then I grabbed my copy of White Blood Cells and put it on repeat for a little over a week. And then I listened to Get Behind Me Satan for maybe a week, and then I went and bought The White Stripes on Sunday, and I'm still listening to it, now.
I don't know, I've always liked some nice, fuzzy rock n' roll a la the Sonics or most of the local bands I've bothered to keep demos of, but the White Stripes just kick extra ass. Maybe it's because they do the fuzzy garage rock thing, and they do the straight blues thing, and the country thing, and the pop rock thing, and they mix them all together so beautifully. I dunno. But yeah, they're absolutely fucking amazing, just wonderful.++
And besides the take of "Spoonful" off Wheels of Fire, here's my favorite live take ever:

I was really into them for a while. I really like my music stripped down and straight to the point.
If anyone hasn't already, you have to listen to their Peel Sessions. Best live recordings I've heard from them.
No, I don't think I will fuck Stummies.

I dig some of the stuff, but just like with any other band that thinks they invented a new sound, half of their albums are just abrasive noise and boring.
