From tvshowsondvd.com
Daria - The Complete Animated Series on DVD will, according to the studio, contain "ALL FIVE SEASONS PLUS BOTH MOVIES!" The running time is 1606 minutes (almost 27 hours!), and video is listed as full screen. Audio specs haven't been provided yet, nor do we have pricing or package art so far. But for now here's a list of the bonus material that will be found on the set.
* Pilot - Sealed With a Kick
* Music Video: Mystik Spiral Music Video "Freakin' Friends"
* Daria Day Intros
* Top Ten Video Countdown Hosted by Daria & Jane
* Cast & Crew Interviews
* Never Before-Seen Mystik Sprial spin-off script

Shame the music cues will be gone, but that's how it goes.

This. Daria was an integral part of my pre-kindergarten childhood, along with the videos for Biggie Smalls' "Mo Money Mo Problems" and the Offspring's "Pretty Fly For a White Guy.

Son of a bitch! Just like what happened with the Beavis & Butthead DVDs. Though I didn't expect them to keep 'em anyway.

Wow, way to make me feel old. I still remember when MTV showed videos... on top of Beavis and Butt-Head's original season, Aeon Flux, Brothers Grunt...I still remember the original Headbanger's Ball, for fuck's sake.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

Yet, no complete series of Beavis and Butthead. Such a waste.

Yeah I've wondered about that, I've got all the Official Mike Judge box sets and I swear there are episodes I remember that aren't on there. The one where that Biker chick makes them shoplift comes to mind.

There are a LOT of missing episodes, especially from the earlier seasons. Not to mention, most of the episodes are edited down to almost nothing. I really don't see why they need to edit them, the humor is SO toned down by today's standards, it really shouldn't be an issue. Plus the music videos are distributed through MTV, so I think they could very well get by without needing to get permission from everyone AGAIN.
We'll probably never see it happen nonetheless.

I seem to recall that some of the videos are on the bonus material dvds in each set. Kind of stupid if you ask me, if their going to be included in the set just have them with the episodes not on another disc.

Two movies. the other being Is It College Yet?
More on the music of the series and its remainder on the DVDs:
Wikipedia wrote: |
Daria's theme song is "You're Standing on My Neck", written and performed by all-female band Splendora. The band later created original themes for the two Daria TV movies, "Turn the Sun Down" (for Is It Fall Yet?) and "College Try (Gives Me Blisters)" (for Is It College Yet?), along with some background music.
The show itself had no original score. Though elements from Splendora's theme were used on occasion, Daria's incidental music was taken from pop music songs. Most of these were contemporary, inserted over exterior shots and some scenes, with rarely any story relevance or awareness from the characters. For example, one episode depicts characters dancing to Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy wit It" mere weeks after the song's release, whereas the sequence itself was designed and animated months earlier.
Some story points were built around specific songs, such as in "Legends of the Mall", where Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" became a major plot point for a fantasy sequence. The closing credits also featured a licensed song on all but a few occasions, the lyrics or concept of which often reflected some aspect of the preceding episode.
For the 1998 and 1999 VHS releases of some Daria episodes, incidental music was replaced, and "You're Standing on My Neck" was played over the closing credits. However, for the bonus episodes included on the DVD releases of the two TV movies, the music was removed almost entirely. |
