So for those not in the know, there's recently been a new Fullmetal Alchemist series, this time it's a bit of a reboot that will more closely follow the manga (the 2nd episode already mentions another country based off China that was present in the manga). To give their non-Japanese fans a shorter wait for dubbing, funimation's website now streams officially subtitled episodes one week after their Japanese air date.

Here's a link to the first episode: http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=video&v=1832

It's a shame my computer is on the fritz, I can't get youtube to work at the moment.

I haven't heard much about it, however I look forward to it nonetheless.

Necrobumping for good reason:

Cartoon Network will beginning airing the now-complete dub starting next Saturday at Midnight.

Maybe I'll be able to actually catch some of this.

I'm torn on this. I love the manga dearly, but I honestly don't see the need for this. Especially when they have to change one of the voice actors who is the heart and soul of the original anime. I'll watch, and probably like it don't get me wrong, but still...torn.

Honestly, I never cared much for the manga's story.

If you're talking about the voice actor for Alphonse, they didn't have much of a choice. Aaron Dismuke went through puberty and just doesn't have the voice for Al anymore. I do miss him though, especially after watching the first episode of the dub and hearing Maxey Whitehead do the voice.

At least we got most of the VA's back, unlike the Japanese version.

Oh I know. I didn't mean to sound mad at them for the change; I knew about the whole voice changing/puberty issue. It just made me sad. His voice was so innocent and sweet, and picture-perfect for Al.

Personally I didn't really mind Whitehead's performance; about halfway through the first dubbed ep I stopped noticing the differences so much.

Exactly. We were kinda spoiled with his voice. I'm sure Maxey Whitehead will do a great job though.

Caught the First episode, and I actually thought it was rather good. Much more light hearted artwork (at least of now) was the first thing I noticed. As far as voices go, I thought they all did a really good job, but I'm just curious, when is this supposed to take place in the Full Metal Alchemist world?

The first series took off on its own storyline about midway through. This series will more closely follow the manga. So I guess you could say the first series is in its own timeline.

The animation has improved. Just look at Conqueror of Shambala and you can see they took cues for shading/coloring for that. As for where this takes place, consider it a Batman Begins; taking place parallel to the manga since with Brotherhood, the whole book was finished when they started on it.
