And the season (and now series) finale is already shot. Lame.

Ratings. Although, SVU will persist and a new Law & Order, Law & Order: Los Angeles will debut.
I think it's hard to blame L&O for its ratings though. NBC moved it around in the fall because of Leno and then never found a good lead-in for it. NBC did poorly in general this year, and overall ratings were down. It's hard to blame L&O for the network's failings, but they did. What's really sad is that L&O has had an exceptional season this year, one of their best in terms of writing. I'm hoping there will be enough backlash for NBC to reconsider and give the show a proper send off. They made an event out of ER's final season, they should do the same for L&O. Also, another season would officially L&O the longest running network drama ever. It is currently tied with Gunsmoke.

If the finale is already shot they really should give it one final season, even if it were a shortened season. A show that's been on that long deserves a proper send-off.
I didn't watch much of the original though, I was more of an SVU kind of guy.
I'll give the spin-off a chance, but I'm not expecting that much.

That kind of sucks, but SVU has always been my favorite. Would it have hurt to have one more season to beat Gunsmoke, though?

Eh, the show was due. And while I haven't seen every season, the ones without Briscoe were kind of lame.

I loved Jack as DA. He's always been my favorite character.
I'll be sad to see this go, but I have to agree with the Bunny that it's kind of due. And I'd rather see it go out on this good season than be forced to watch it disintegrate into shit.

I stopped liking it after Michael Moriarty left, honestly.

SVU is still in need of an ADA. Maybe they can import Linus Roache.

You know, I like him. I would watch SVU more frequently if he was on it.

Jack McCoy is the second most badass guy in the L&O universe.
No points for guessing #1.

Trick question. He is so awesome that he is both #1 AND #2.

I dunno, Stabler has probably beat up more guys than Finn. Also, Briscoe, Munch, and Logan are all pretty awesome.

I think I asked this before, but isn't Munch the exact same Munch from "Homicide : Life on the Street"? If that's the case, he has seniority.

I'm not arguing "awesome", I'm arguing "basass". Briscoe and Munch I'd absolutely throw on the awesome list, though.
And Stabler's just an ass.

He is. In fact, one of the reasons you don't see him so much anymore is because every time they use him, they need to cut a check to the Homicide people.

Richard Belzer has appeared on a record 8 different television as John Munch.
However, he is nowhere close to having the longest continual portrayal of a character. It probably belongs to some soap opera star. Susan Lucci, for example, has played Erica Kane on All My Children for 40 years.

I'd still hit it, too. Lucci, not Belzer.

Why not USA? It'd be a lot more interesting than Criminal Fucking Intent.

Whenever I discuss L&O with anyone, three things always come up.
1) "I mostly like SVU"
2) "I can't stand Stone"
3) "Criminal Intent sucks"

Criminal Intent is pretty terrible. When I started watching it, it was because Chris Noth was on it. They rarely gave his team the good scripts, but I enjoyed him anyway. Bogosian was good. VDO was terrible, but he was so epic in his terribleness (e.g. David Caruso) that he was fun to watch. The way that he would irritate the hell out of suspects with his bad Columbo impersonation was entertaining. I like Jeff Goldblum's movies, but he is absolutely terrible on CI.
