Not quite, I play cello, and I keep it in the standard tuning for classical pieces. though the cello, bass, and viola's standard tunings are all the same (CGDA) the violins being GDAE, I started playing it because of my high school music class, but then I bought my own. Instructional books work well for classical instruments, as there's not much inflection involved (no, bends, slides, legato, etc.), save for some vibrato on occasion, more advanced stuff maybe some time shifts or pizzing (pizzicato/finger plucking, no bow).it's easy enough, if you're looking to play classical pieces, it may be a bit more difficult.
