I have been a scavenger of the internet for years looking for rare and unreleased video from my childhood (80's kid), and very few things have eluded me.
For example I got all of YCDTOTV (excluding the majority of season 1), Captain power, Nelvanamation volume's 1 and 2, The adventures of Mouse and Child and a real rarity that most haven't heard of "Arajin to maho no ranpu" otherwise known as "Aladdin and his wonderful lamp" in the english version release, all of these in good to DVD quality. So I finally got these gems for myself.
Back to my point of posting: If you could have one show or movie and only one released onto DVD perfectly with all the extras what would it be?
Mine is Definitely the old Nickelodeon show " Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea" (english version) I only have a few episodes off of youtube and feel lucky I got those. Found a bootleg source but frankly I don't trust it and it is over $100 for an incomplete set
The theme song still invades my head weekly.

"Stunt Dawgs" is definitely one I want to have, it was hilarious.
Also, "Cowboys of Moo-Mesa".

Pretty much all of the early 90s Nickelodeon shows; Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa, etc. I've found some private sellers online that sell DVDs of those shows recorded from TV, but damn, I'd pay a lot of money to have official releases of all of those series I loved as a kid.
A Saved By The Bell box set would be pretty sweet too.

Clarissa season one is availible though second season was never released so it would be nice to see that. Also season 3 of pete and pete would be nice.

The big hurdle is the cost of securing the rights to the period music that was used on the show. This didn't pose a problem back during the show's original run, since broadcasting rights differ from distribution rights and are less expensive. Most shows nowadays negotiate distribution rights prior to broadcasting, but back then nobody anticipated that an entire TV series could be released on digital media. So they ended up using about three hundred songs that are now hugely expensive to get the rights for.
If The Wonder Years ever ends up on DVD it will most likely be with different music. The two Best Of DVDs that have been released so far both used replacement music. In order to release the whole series they'd have to go through each and every episode, see which songs are exchangeable and which other less expensive songs can be used instead. That's both a time and money-intensive process, so it's uncertain if we will ever see box sets of the entire show.

Yeah more or less the same reason we will never see a legit Muppet babies DVD release, except with them they used more video clips, etc if I remember right.

The Daria TV movies Is It Fall Yet? and Is It College Yet? are the sole two authorized DVD releases as of 2009. Each DVD also includes two episodes from the series, from seasons 4 and 5 respectively, with licensed music removed. The latter disc uses a second-showing MTV version that was shortened by approximately seven minutes, rather than the original cablecast version. |

Hey, Beavis and Butthead got to keep a lot of the videos in DVD releases, I don't see why they can't do the same for Daria. Either that, or it's torrent and DVD burning city for me.
