So I've been on a semi- oldschool Maiden kick lately, and have had "Killers" and "Iron Maiden" pretty much on repeat everywhere I drive. I'm a huge fan of Bruce Dickinson so that stuff doesn't get nearly as much play from me as the stuff from his era. The more I listened, though, the more I really like Di'Anno's voice (and the band's sound as a whole.) "Murder in the Rue Morgue" fucking rocks, and as much as it pains me to say it, I think Di'Anno's rendition of "Wrathchild" is better than Dickinson's. (Not that I don't LIKE Bruce's, but the song clearly wasn't written for his style of singing.)

I'm a huge fan of opera, which is probably why I appreciate Bruce's vocals so much, but there really is something to be said for the raw energy of Paul's vocals, even if they lack some of the power and epicness.

Iono, just random ruminations when I should be in bed. Who's your favorite Maiden vocalist?

Bruce Dickenson IS Iron Maiden. On that note, there is no denying that those two albums are fucking spectacular (and sooo underrated)

Bruce Dickenson for sure. I love his vocals and that is why I file Iron Maiden under "Epic Metal." Epic as in the songs tell a story, or at least try to, I just do not feel that same passion from Paul Di'Anno when he is singing though.

Paul is awesome, but I've gotta back Bruce. I've met too many kids with Iron Maiden patches sewn on to book bags next to their Dead Kennedys patches, and then you ask them about Maiden and they're like "Killers is the only good album they ever did. Bruce sucks."

FAIL.

I know that's not Paul's fault, but it still makes me mad.

Oh dear God, EPIC fail. Are you kidding me? Rolling Eyes Those kids need to be schooled bigtime.

Yeah, if I could only listen to one Maiden singer, it would be Bruce. (And if I could only listen to one metal vocalist period, it'd be a tie between him and Eric Adams, who has a lot of similar vocal epicness going on.)

..."Only good album they ever did." Rolling Eyes I'm not gonna get over that one for a while. Dumbasses.

No love for Blaze???

This Is A Joke

Both Paul and Bruce were great, but Bruce defines Iron Maiden and I've got to give it to him.

Yeah, no love for Number of The Beast, Piece of Mind, or Powerslave, total epic fail for sure.

Paul is awesome, and I went through a few years where I was hooked on the first two albums, but Bruce will always be my favorite singer for Iron Maiden. I just think that if Paul stayed in the band they would've gotten boring after awhile.

People who don't like any of the 80's Maiden albums shouldn't be allowed to exist (well except Live After Death, that kinda sucks).

Paul was grittier, but Bruce had better range (for a while).

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks Live After Death is meh. I always hear amazing things about it, and I just don't get it. Live at Rock in Rio is by far my favorite of their live albums. The sound quality is awesome, and the energy is amazing.

I agree about Paul's grit. I do love the sound, but I'm not sure he was right for what Maiden turned into. I do wish he had been able to leave under better circumstances though; his talent deserved more than his addictions allowed him.

There's a bunch of flaws with Live After Death. Bruce barely hits half of the notes and sounds shot to shit. The guitar tones seem generally weak, and it feels as if the wrong guitar harmony is always louder in the mix. I'll say this though, the live version of Phantom Of The Opera fucking owns! Plus the video is a fun watch on a lonely Saturday night.

How come nobody ever compares the 3 Iron Maiden singers at once. Blaze deserves song credit for X-Factor and Virual XI

In his defense, the thread wasn't that old. The previous post was 2 months ago, but it was still on the first page.

Because most of the songs with Blaze suck. There are like 3 or 4 good songs on the three albums he did with Iron Maiden.

For a matter of fact.

When i saw Iron Maiden it was a small tour for the release of their Early Days DVD.

So the concert consisted of the same lineup performing only material from the first 4 albums.

So i got to rock it out to Phantom of the Opera and stuff live with Bruce. It was awesome.

and although i like those albums with Di'Anno i preferred Bruce doing it live.

I like Dick Brucington way better than Di'Anno, although when it comes to that style of singing I prefer Freddie Mercury.
