If you type in "Earthbound" or "Mother" in the searchbar on YouTube, you're not going to have much luck finding videos related to the game. I found these when I was digging around for the US Earthbound commercial and wanted to share them. (never found that commercial, btw. If anyone remembers it, or has links to a clip or screenshots, please share!)

Earthbound Saga Chapter 1: Some people are trying to re-enact Earthbound. It's bad, but so, so good.

Earthbound Saga Chapter 2: these videos are still ongoing, so I think you can expect a chap 3.

Mother commecial: If Nintendo actually brought this game overseas when I was a kid and used this commercial to promote it... I would have probably been scarred for life.

What a crappy commercial... It seems more like one of those preview ads they used to show in the electronics section at Walmart than anything.

Isn't it true Earthbound had one of the most expensive advertisement campaigns in gaming history? or is my wacky memory just making stuff up?

They had a huge two page spread in Gamepro magazine, with a scratch and sniff thing that smelled like barf.

You're making stuff up.
It was a big campaign for EarthBound, but not the most expensive...

And if anyone has a utility that can burn GBA carts, There's a fan translation of M3 going on... Nintendo, hurry up with the EB compilation!

No its not, under very specific circumstances. Section 117 of the US Copyright Law gives the owner of a software package the right to make an additional copy under certain provisions. If you adhere to the provisions then making ROM images is perfectly legal. However, legislation has been passed to prevent software piracy that makes game copying devices illegal. Using such a device to create a ROM image makes the resulting image illegal as well.

*******************************************************************

Sec. 117. Limitations on exclusive rights: Computer programs

* (a) Making of Additional Copy or Adaptation by Owner of Copy.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106, it is not an
infringement for the owner of a copy of a computer program to
make or authorize the making of another copy or adaptation of
that computer program provided:

* (1) that such a new copy or adaptation is created as an
essential step in the utilization of the computer program in
conjunction with a machine and that it is used in no other
manner, or

* (2) that such new copy or adaptation is for archival purposes
only and that all archival copies are destroyed in the event that
continued possession of the computer program should cease to be
rightful.
