I was just making an observation/joke. It was not an attempt to be disrespectful at all. If you interpreted it that way, I'm sorry. Geez...

Not really referring to you specifically, this has popped up on the internet in general.

Granted, but by the same token, I've seen much worse/degradating comments than what Cattivo said. At least we didn't take a full verbal shit on the guy.

Hitchens to the very end was a total hero in my eyes.

He made this amazing quote before he died, i fucking lold at it.

"I have been taunting the Reaper into taking a free scythe in my direction and have now succumbed to something so predictable and banal that it bores even me,"

What a fucking hero.

Optimist, to be fair, this is a guy who wrote a book called How Religion Poisons Everything. This is not a man who breached tolerance or engendered tolerance or even wanted tolerance. He was a prominent member of the New Atheism movement, whose overall goal was eradication of religion and the spread of atheism. Ironic, because that's exactly how religious extremists behave.

I will not mourn Christopher Hitchens any more than I mourned Jerry Falwell, and that was not at all. They were both agents of intolerance.

I will say this: Hitchens was a devious bastard. He would troll religious people to their breaking points, then say "See? I was right. Religion is evil" when they would inevitably finally lose their tempers and lash out against his trolling. Very clever.

It's been a sad year for tyranny. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to return to the land of video games where tyranny NEVER dies. Wily, Bowser, Ganon, Robotnik... my lovable old enemies. You will live to rampage again. You WILL live to rampage again.

I still really try hard not to be happy when people die, because I realize what a scary time it must be for them.

Then I think about the fact this motherfucker's put millions of people in that place because of his actions, directly or indirectly. I hope he enjoys getting his salad tossed by nightcrawlers.

Fun fact: if you are seeing conflicting reports on his age (ie MSNBC says he died at 69), the reason is because Koreans count age a bit differently than we do. It's a bit more complicated that this, but in essence they count the 9 months in the womb as a year. So, when you're born, you're already 1.

Hasn't he died like 6 times now? Is he a time lord? Though seriously his death will likely change nothing in Korea sadly.

Awesome, my birthday coincides with the birth of Stalin and the death of Kim Jong-il.

I thought his Soviet records (he was born Yuri) said he was 69, and Korean records say he was 70.

Ah, I didn't know about that. Interesting.

I guess maybe Yuri Irsenovich wouldn't go over quite as well with the rest of Korea.

I can't believe Kim Jong-Il finally died. That guy made a bunch of facts that put the Chuck Norris facts to shame.

In fact, around the time of his funeral service, I suggest we make a thread listing those "facts."
