Ha. I didn't know this was about music until I checked.
My main instrument is keys/piano, but I also play, in order of efficacy, bass, guitar, drums, and pretty much anything else I get my hands on. I really don't write enough though; I mainly like to dick around with theory conventions and see how they apply to certain genres and then emulate, combine, and expand.
I have some recordings of things on www.use-bombs.com under the music tab (the forest and lava themes don't work, I have to get my buddy to fix it). They're mostly short little things I did years ago.
Outside of that, some of my writing/arranging/playing work can be heard in the songs we recorded for my band's EP, all 5 songs are at www.myspace.com/collectivefuntimeband . Some of these don't have as much of my input as others, but it's difficult to remember what I suggested for others, though any keyboard work is all my own doing.
I'd love to start an interesting video game music cover band... but I'm currently in dire financial straits and have little equipment... something I hope to fix soon.
I am in a very similar musical boat as you. I love fucking with genres and feels, and applying them in an interesting fashion. I used to have better equipment but am financially fucked at the moment, desperately need a new head for cab.
I have been trying to start a VG cover band forever though...
i played trumpet periodically from middle school thru college. i was in a band playing guitar for a couple years after high school, got a music degree with playing guitar. i don't play much anymore though...i think i got burned out on it.

Alright bitches bring it, I recorded this on my laptop webcam earlier today. Just kinda shredding in "A".
Please excuse the latency between my webcam, its like a 1/4 sec. delay. This is my first take and kinda sloppy, I could probably play cleaner lol.
Ok, I'm going to post in the next day or two. I will play something that doesn't require as much brushing up, but will still be ok none the less. I will then later post some more difficult stuff. I just need some time to brush up. Also, my piano could use a tune-up.

I might have to post a vid of myself rockin' "YYZ" (when I perfect it, I'm close), or "Trapped Under Ice" when A) I get a new E-string, and B) My laptop/webcam gets fixed. I've got a fairly old video of me doing an improvised bass solo that I posted on Facebook a while back (I would only watch from :20 to 1:18, after that I accidentally butcher Kyuss' "Green Machine"):
Most of my friend's comments were about my hair (which has since been cut and my facial hair shaved, what was I thinking?). As for the solo itself, I basically just wanked around in C minor (I think, it's been a while since I studied any scales.)
Good vid man, how long have you been playing? This is alot of fun, I am going to put some more up tomorrow
Why thank you. At the time of the video, I'd been playing for about a year and 9 months, now it's about two years. Your vid was good too, I'm not at that level at guitar yet (been playing about four months.) I've got to learn how to solo in key on bass/guitar, as you could see, my knowledge is somewhat limited. I also notice I'm falling into a bad pattern of soloing (on guitar), I always seem to play a few notes per string, then tremolo pick like crazy on the high E. I need to work on that.
As for other instruments, I have a video of me drumming Metallica's "One", but I lose the beat a few times, and the quality of the double-bass sounds bad with my webcam (insert joke about Lars Ulrich's drumming here). I might post it later.

For me, soloing in key is really easy...but that's just because I memorized the pentatonic scale, so I'm not necessarily the most innovative guitarist. As far as my music goes, if I can't find a video camera, just listen to my MySpace to hear me sing, play guitar, bass, and drums
I'll post something once I get my hands on a decent digital camcorder and a decent set of keys at the same time. I'd probably just play some video game music and maybe riff a solo in it. We'll see if I ever get the chance.

Hmmmmm, blackout I can't seem to get the vid to work.
download the codecs to make it work, it's a music video that explains how the pope and beans are conspiring with naked lesbian satanists to bring about the apocalypse. NSFW.

Hah, Vista is givin me the old run around, I will try and make it work.
Never noticed this thread, so I figured I'd mention I used to play a number of instruments. I was actually originally a music major (Music Engineering), but I havent' played in a few years. I've been wanting to grab my old instruments and play again though. Anyway, I played, in the order I started them:
cello (stopped before high school), clarinet, tenor sax, bass clarinet, tuba, and then a couple semesters of forced piano and singing in college, neither of which I'm very good at.

I thought about being a music major but felt it was too hard to be successful with such a degree. I wanted a music engineering degree or tech degree of some sort as I am into recording and studio work, alas VCU does not offer it...
Well I had no ambitions of being a performer, as that's unrealistic. The University of Miami is the place to go for music engineering, so I most likely would have had no trouble getting a job, but it's not REALLY a music major, it's an engineering major in the school of music. (After 3 semesters I then switched to IT which was ironically in the school of engineering, but not an engineering degree).
As for VCU not offering it, there are very few schools that actually do offer it.

I can play guitar, bass, drums and piano to varying degrees. All passable, but some better than others. My PREFERRED instrument is guitar, my BEST instrument is bass. I do play in a punk rock band (code for 'you don't actually have to be TOO good') but I suppose it's better than most because I can solo.
The best thing about being in a punk band, especially with other heavy Irish drinkers like myself, is that I can get plastered and still pull off a flawless show. I don't think I could do that with anything more concentrate-heavy.
The best part of all our shows is that, since we don't take ourselves too seriously, our encore is Super Mario Brothers.
