Isn't that what an elitist is? |
Actually no. An elitist someone who thinks something or someone is inherently better. For example, like someone thinking a band or genre no one has ever heard of is better than a mainstream band or genre by virtue of it being non mainstream. It is also the sense of entitlement held by such a group or class.
So, for example, a kid going on the internet to complain about bands viewed as legendary while promoting bands no one has ever heard of and expecting to be liked for it cause his tastes are so super special awesome, is elitist. Someone saying that is a dumb way of thinking, is not.

I honestly think nihilisticglee's first thread post here should just stand. It's music you, eatpork, think are good songs from bad artists. Not everyone shares that opinion. Nobody is the ultimately objective arbiter of everyone else's taste. Where the fuck is the problem at then? People called x y and then z happened. Grow up, build a fucking bridge and get over it.
Although as an aside, Talking Heads really don't belong on anyone's bad list. I'm not saying they can't be, but really, even their spinoffs like Tom Tom Club were fucking catchy. For realz.

I didn't complain, I made a thread and my opinions were poorly received and I was outcasted for it, so naturally I defended myself.

I really would like to get over it, but the fact that I can't make threads or post anymore without somebody coming there and parodying my actions forcing me to continue this bickering really makes it difficult.

Don't bicker. Just like with my wife when she says shit that annoys me, ignore 'em. Or throw in a humorous but confusing non sequitur. Everybody here is a fairly decent individual, personal opinions notwithstanding, so whenever someone says something I don't agree with or calls me something, though I'm not sure the latter's happened, I just ignore it. I don't know, can you turn your emotions on and off? It helps me tremendously with bad situations.

I fail to see how a reply of:
"Topic instafails.
Aside from Chingy and Lil Jon, and possibly Animal Collective who I've never even heard of, there's not a bad artist on that list."
Is even the slightest bit insulting/dickish. It's true. The topic fails because it includes KISS, Alice Cooper, and Aerosmith. Even if you don't like these artists, labeling them as "bad" is pretty ridiculous.
For comparison:
Topic: Good games in Bad Franchises
Super Mario Bros. 3
Zelda II: Adventure of Link
Halo 2
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Now, this is just an example, as I like all 4 of these games, and the Castlevania series is the only series I don't particularly like. Does that mean that the Castlevania series is bad? Does it mean that Legacy of Darkness is good? Of course not. My opinion on that topic is in the underwhelming majority.
If I titled the thread "Games you enjoy in VG franchises you don't enjoy", then it wouldn't be so bad. But since I outright said "Mario is bad, Zelda is bad, Halo is bad, and Castlevania is bad," I really should prepare to get flamed. And the topic would be instafail.
Might as well add Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix to your list, OP.

No, it's not.
That's a pretty useless analogy. I think most KISS, Cooper, and especially Aerosmith songs are bad, because I like one song should that mean they're good to me? Nope, THAT would be ridiculous.
Shame on you for even implying Zepp and Hendrix are in the same class as Aerosmith.

Oh yes, cause there was so much parodying your actions in the Your Favorite Directors thread, or in Best Video Game Generation thread, or in the Chronicle All the Video Game Consoles You Have Ever Owned thread. Yep, every thread you post is filled with people parodying your actions.
Seriously, the only thread I saw that was parodying your actions was in this thread and the favorite genre thread, which only happened after you called people tools.

The only problem now is that you admitted you were continuing Syd's joke, that might've slipped my mind.

You know, I'm starting to get suspicious about people wanting me in IRC so badly, they can't possibly think I'm any better in real time. This isn't some sort of trick to get me a virus or something, is it? I assure you, it will do no good with all the porn viruses already infecting my computer.

Goddammit, this thread sucks. For the record, I only listen to Anal Cunt, everything else is just talentless noise.

I think you don't understand the atmosphere here, eatpork. None of us are serious all the time, and things said here should rarely be taken super seriously because after all, it is just the internet. We're all friends here and pick on each other, and you should really chill out a little bit.
