There are 9 bosses in all: Yum-Yum, the giant scorpion, the pharaoh mask, Zoda-X, the skeleton miner, Zoda-Y, the dragon, Zoda-Z, and Zoda-Z's final form. If anyone reaches it, feel free to use the life-restoring vitamin that they give you just before Zoda-Z.

Oh yeah... I forgot about the healing item. I was going to disallow it, but oh well. Overall damage taken will still be a factor.

You have no idea how much I LOVE having stuff spawn on me for absolutely no goddamn reason.
Sent my crappy run, I don't feel like playing this stupid game anymore.

Submitted my entry.
Did surprisingly well for the recorded run. Got further than on practice runs which never happens

Why aren't you recording all your runs?

Practice, set some save states to practice isolated sections, a number of reasons.

Here we are... the final week. For this challenge, we have what I consider to be one of the toughest games on the NES to beat, Solomon's Key. Your task is to tackle 3 sets of levels with only one life for each set. Complete as many levels as you can from stages 4-7, 27-30, and 45-final. The more levels you complete total from all the sets, the better you place. Tiebreaker will be time.
Game: Solomon's Key
Start at level 4: save state 0
Start at level 27: save state 1
Start at level 45: save state 2

Good luck.
Also, the participation for the last challenge was extremely horrible. Don't let me down.

Hmmm....

Uh oh, this always means you had a great run.
In my best run, I beat the Miner's Ghost with 8 or 9 hearts, but then on the next boss (Zoda-Y) I lasted about two seconds because while preparing to dodge his projectiles I jumped right into that water/acid/deathpool/blackquicksand stuff like a moron.

I defeated the miner with 9 hearts left. I reached Zoda-Y a few times but barely ever managed to damage his second phase. I would have wanted to at least defeat him.
Then I kept having blue flames spawn on me against Zoda-X and the miner ramming into me while cornered by the boulders, so I said fuck this shit I'm playing Dragon Warrior 2.

... I was honestly expecting 5, maybe 6 points for this (only played Sunday). Then again I thought my 210 coins run of SMB was a sure 10 points
I guess I need to play until I get incredibly pissed at the game and want to throw my controller at the wall to get good runs.

YOU CAN ATTACK DIAGONALLY?!?
FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Oh well, doubt it would've helped me much anyhow. And oh man, that last boss is intense. That attack where he spouts shit everywhere. Nice job, lavalarva.

You did a damn good job this round, Meek, even just attacking in straight lines.

He did, indeed, have a great run, more than enough to win this round:

More than enough? MORE THAN ENOUGH? He bested me by one half of a heart. Damn that one tiny scorpion who touched me in the second boss...(at least I think that's what cost me).
Nice job, lava.
Meek...LOL! That sucks, dude. I'm surprised you didn't even discover you could shoot diagonally on accident.

Maybe he's using a keyboard, and it locks when he presses three keys so the game refuses to shoot while he's moving diagonally? That's what mine does anyway.
And while Klim has clinched 1st place, I can still go for most wins, and can tie my duel with him on the last challenge.

Nah, I use a wired 360 controller. I probably don't have the controls mapped out right.
