| Also, why the hell was Tom Cruise in the last samurai AS THE LAST FREAKING SAMURAI?!! |
Actually, I got into a debate about that back at the film's release. Some people are positive that he was not the last samurai... and some people think neither Cruise nor Watanabe were the last samurai.
I never read the script AvP. All I know was there was an actual draft which took place on an alien world and was subtitled. As much as Anderson's version made my head hurt, it was nowhere near the pain a full on rubber monster battle royale movie would've been.
And Romero's script for "Resident Evil" was not good.
"Jet Li as Honest Abe" is the best film idea I've heard in a long time. Damn him for announcing his semi-retirment! That film could've been his REAL martial arts epic!!!

That sequel has been rumored for years, and yet still nothing has happened to it. Thank God, because they show the same people responsible for Annihilation connected with it. Making one of the worst movies ever shouldn't result in doing a sequel for it....Although I heard someone's paying Uwe Boll to make Bloodrayne 2...

Maybe that's his master plan. He will keep making craptacular films until people start paying him anually to STOP making films, and he can retire.

His Resident Evil wasn't that bad. And it wasn't his fault Capcom fired Romero.
They should have stuck with the original script for AVP, but any AVP movie that got made would have been less than thrilling because the studio was hellbent on a PG-13 rating. |
it isn't his fault that they fired romero, but it sure as heck is his fualt for writing a horrible movie.
the original resident evil was much less than spectacular. writing his girlfriend in as the main character, and makign the role specifically for her was another bad move. even if you fight with me about that movie, try to jsutify it's sequel.
the only redeeming factor of the original was that pretty much all of the characters and events that he fucked up could be considered a sepereate story, but the sequel had his shit interactiung and changing resident evil canon to the point of no return.
AVP's lack of violence for rating is not what made it bad. it was evrythign else that made it bad. when they show aliens on network Tv and edit some of the gore out, it's still a good movie at it's core.

| Yeah, but they could've had Cruise in the capacity of the last samurai's american friend, not as someone who should be asian. |
I think that this movie was well done, in that it was not trying to make us think that Cruise was an asian, but rather an outsider who learns of the asian culture and the traditions of the Samurai. In learning about their beliefs and culture he finds something within himself. (*PLAY CHEESY MUSIC HERE)
Though, this is a glorified work of fiction, as by the time the movie takes place, the Samurai class were curupted by power and wealth and they were holding down the other social classes knowing that due to western influence the samurai's fuedal control was over.
But, that's besides the point.
The Last Samurai is a bad example of the arguement, as it does not portray someone as being of a different culture. It that movie, they point out quite clearly that the character is from a different country. A better example would be something like the recently released "Marie Antoinette". This movie is the historical tale of an Austrian girl who marries into french royalty, and is played by an american actress. Needless to say, the French shat upon this movie.
Since this would be to us, like a movie about Abraham Lincoln starring Jet Li as Honest Abe.* Awhile back I saw a discussion regarding a "Romance Of The Three Kingdoms" Movie where many people said that it should cast big Hollywood celebrities to draw more interest and money into the film, while others argued that it would be wrong to cast american actors in the roles of historical Chinese figures.
*Though, I would go see that movie in a heartbeat. Jet Li rocks. |
simply put, people who complain about cruise being "the last samurai" haven't seen the movie.
maddox included.

Oh, I saw it. It was at around 3am last year, but I saw it. Also, I'll pay $100 dollars to see Kung-Fu Abe Lincoln.

MI:II was the worst action film I've ever seen. My friends and I just laughed at it in the theatre. The stunts were just ridiculous. I understand it's a movie, and you have to suspend your disbelief, but that movie was just silly. Cruise was going every which way on a bike, but was still able to have perfect aim with his gun. And that famous head-to-head motorcycle stunt was implausible too. They just happen to be able to get at each other by jumping off their bikes at the same time? Please.

It's also VERY BADLY EDITED! Keep an eye on the bikes. They go two different directions on the ground when the two actors leap into each other... in the next shot, there's a random insert of the two bikes flying through the air together and exploding. "MI:II" is most definitely a very bad movie. Yet, I don't blame Crusie for it.

I love it. I love it so much, out of spite I broke down three scenes for my current film instructor about how well made they were and claimed that it was the best movie of the year - if not the decade. I was partially kidding, because my instructor is an asshole, but by the end I actually respected the film about 300% more than I had when I watched it in theaters.

I agree that MI:III is amazing; one of the best action films I've seen.
I have a theory that the biggest assholes in real life are among the best movie stars... look at Mel, Tom, the Duke, hell even Jerry Lewis.

None of those people are asshole compared to some of the lesser stars, like say, Steven Seagal. He was married to Kelly LeBrock and he had her name their youngest child after their nanny... then it turned out he was cheating on her with the nanny.
