I think I have had video game induced rage more than I would like to admit.

There was that one time I got pissed off at NSMB on the DS at the final stage, and proceeded to rip the game cart out of the DS once I got a game over, and bite it. It didn't seem to like that, and therefor didn't work afterwards.

I think my latest game rage was when I lost my save file for EarthBound Zero thanks to the emulator I was using for NES games on my iPhone deciding to autoload a save state from a while ago, thus overwriting the current native save file (It was a newer copy I had just put on when I decided to transfer my ROM collection to my iPhone). I proceeded to throw the phone on the ground in a fit of rage.

That's why I don't make save states for RPGs. It's really easy to overwrite your progress, and they're almost useless for normal gameplay as there are saves points everywhere. If you use want to use save states to rewatch a scene easily or whatever, you can just copy the ROM in a new folder before making the states.

When I played Final Fantasy V on my SNES emulator, I used the save points AND save states. At least once or twice I saved in the middle of a battle that had become unwinnable for me. But then I died, and I was able to restart from the last save point with minimal progress lost. If you only use instant save states, as I did once in Dragon Warrior I, you are fucked.

I find it possible if you use multiple save states. Keep a save you know is safe in slot 2, so if you get burned in slot you, no big deal.

I keep thinking this thread says "Most violent reaction you've witnessed attributed to a vag" everytime I see it.

Shake it, Quake it, Space Kaboom.

I happened to have a savestate load because the emulator saves the game state when the emulator is closed or I select a different game. It then loads it when I reload the game. There's an option to turn the former off (which I have done), but if it finds the save state, it will load it regardless, I believe.

I also use save states to make saves where I can't, for example, run to the nearest phone to save progress in EarthBound or EarthBound Zero in a timely manner, and need to stop playing as soon as possible.

Personally I don't mind letting the emulator on pause for like 5 hours while I go away, but I do have my own computer.
It's just that I almost lost 100+ hours of gameplay when I accidentally loaded a save state, and I was only able to recover the overwritten save because I had actually opened the emulator without noticing I already had the game on pause, so two emulator windows were running at once and I could save in the non-stateloaded one.

Since then I decided save state = pure evil, unless it's an action game where there isn't really any progress to be lost.
