How is Otomedius as far as how hardcore it is, anyway? Is it the kind of game you can beat on a single life like Life Force or is it more in line with DoDonpachi / Progear / other cave shooters?
Also I seriously wanna know, what happened to jets shooting alien eyeballs and guts being cool? Gradius 5 is pretty much a sequel in spirit to Life Force from NES, they got it right.

My copy is coming supposedly coming to today, so I'll let you know on the difficulty curve.
Also, those Cave shooters are meant to be beaten on 1 life too. Or rather, one credit. And then you fight the super secret mega impossible boss.

So I just started playing this a couple hours ago. It's not really hardcore. It's basically just Gradius with tits, right down to nearly every boss and mini-boss having a core that you have to shoot. There's also some bullshit system where you get experience for killing enemies that permanently levels your character. I haven't read the instructions, but I assume it gives you access to higher level power-ups or something.
The game isn't as zany as I hoped it would be. I am a huge fan of Parodius and not so much a fan of Gradius, and this is rooted firmly in Gradius. I expected a game about half-naked straddling laser-mounted space canoes to have more interesting enemies than gray spaceship #1, gray spaceship #2, and slightly bigger gray spaceship. There should be some fucking penguins and shit up in this bitch.

I'm holding out for a Gun-Nac remake.

well damn.
I'm still waiting for a true Life Force remake. Gradius 5 was about as close as we've gotten so far.

The manual is four pages long and explains absolutely nothing. And they say people don't care about plots in shmups.

You know what I love? The text crawl with the translation of the voice acting. Cuz I have time to fucking read when I'm dodging a shit ton of bullets.

I really suck at this game. I can't kill any boss past Level 2 before the timeout. It's pissing me off. Fucking "shoot the core" bullshit. I like my giant bosses to have giant hit zones.

I played Dodonpachi Resurrection for 2 hours yesterday, and I am fairly certainly I will never clear the game properly. I could probably clear Otomedius Excellent properly if I worked at it. But, in those two hours of DDPR, I had a lot more fun than I did in the 20 hours I've played Otomedius Excellent. Otomedius Excellent, you are now dead to me.

I'm just wondering why music DLC costs more than extra characters.

They probably used the Japanese price structure, and the Japanese are weird.

The Japanese are obsessed with side and bottom-boob.
