I've never played Densha de Go (which is not about Fire Emblem but trains, which can sometimes get derailed) but I have played Radiant Dawn. What Fire Emblem games have you guys played?

Move the national consoles debate elsewhere.

I've played Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, and Path of Radiance. All of 'em are pretty good, so I'm curious to see how Fire Emblem 3DS fares.

Radiant Dawn actually has a special conversation between Ike and Soren near the end, but to get it you have to have maxed out their friendship in Path of Radiance and have that save plugged into your Wii.

The game's Japanese title will be Fire Emblem: Kakusai, which translates to "Awakening." It will be released in Japan on April 19, and features voice acting during the battle sequences, meaning that every character will be voiced. In addition, there will be a world map that allows players to engage in optional battles and the skill system is more flexible than it has been in previous Fire Emblem games.

What's more intriguing is that this will be the first 3DS game to feature purchasable DLC.

I've played a few. I played Fire Emblem (the GBA one), Sword of Seals, Path of Radiance and Radient Dawn.

A new, lengthy trailer for FE: Awakening, which shows off the assist system a bit more, as well as showing off the various classes and even DLC of characters from previous games.

Was that a character customization feature? I'm wondering if that's for simply being a tactician, or for being a complete battle unit. Also, that's a crazy suit of plates for the Armor Knight.

I had never played a Fire Emblem game until last month when I finally delved into Sacred Stones--the one that was free for 3DS Ambassadors. I'm on my second playthrough and I love it. Nintendo was smart in including that as an Ambassador game because I doubt I would have ever tried it and now I'm looking forward to its release more than just about any other 3DS game that's been announced.

The graphics on this look amazing, and I can imagine they'll be fantastic in 3D. Looks like I won't be turning the battle animations off in the options for this one.

Glad you enjoyed Sacred Stones! I noticed from the thread's videos that a world map seems to have returned, which should be interesting. Thankfully, it looks like random battles can be bypassed; I don't think you could prevent them from loading in Stones.

I also highly recommend the first United States-released Fire Emblem game. It doesn't allow for class promotion choices, but I thought the plot was a bit more focused.

Though Nintendo has spoken of the wireless functions of the latest entry in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem: Awakening before, it recently went into detail on three specific areas. Dual Tag mode allows players over local wireless to fight cooperatively, each person picking three units. In StreetPass mode, the My Unit custom character can be traded with others. The received characters will then join the player's army. In SpotPass mode, players can download extra maps via WiFi.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is the first title of the long running series for the Nintendo 3DS. The game will be released in Japan on April 19, 2012. While the game is slated to come out in Europe some time this year, no North American release has been announced.

I've always had a remote interest in Fire Emblem games. I just am not too keen on playing these long drawnout battle games anymore. The customization is becoming way too much and it seems like people just read online guides to get ahead or be horribly punished (grinding to remake a proper character) for making wrong class decisions.

The game does looks much better in motion than in the stills I've seen.

I love the games, they're definitely a time sink for me. I'm considering re-buying the Wii just for this.

Fire Emblem: Awakening's first DLC will be available when the game is released in Japan on April 19th. This DLC contains Marth, whom you'll unlock by clearing a map after which he can become a member of your party.

The Marth DLC will be free from April 19th to May 31st. Afterwards he'll be available for 300 yen.

Nintendo of Europe's Satoru Shibata announced that, despite earlier announcements that Fire Emblem 3DS would be released in 2012, the game has been delayed in that region until 2013. Similarly, Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime gave a more formal unveiling of the upcoming North American release of the game, which will also be coming in 2013.

While not much else was said about Fire Emblem 3DS's release in either region, Reggie Fils-Aime did specifically mention that Nintendo of America would be supporting the game with DLC content just as it has been in Japan. It should also be noted that neither of the two division presidents used the game's Japanese title of Fire Emblem Awakening, indicating that even the game's western title has yet to be finalized.

We now have confirmation from Nintendo Direct that Fire Emblem: Awakening will release on February 4th of next year in the US, with an EU release in April.

Last post about the game before it actually comes out on Sunday. Who all plans on getting it?

According to an advance review by rpgamer, although the full on pairing up sounds awesome and has been made up to be a major feature, a full-on pairing of two units in one space costs the back-up character XP and boosts. Coupled with the fact that there's no major tactical difference between when units are paired as compared to just being adjacent, and it's best to let everybody have their own space.

I never played any Fire Emblem games but I downloaded the demo and it seemed alright. I think I'll pick it up because I desperately need something to do on my 3DS other than streetpassing for puzzle pieces.

I'll be downloading it tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it will be my most played 3DS title of 2013.

The only other FE game I've played is Sacred Stones, and that was because it was an Ambassador game. I'm glad it was included. I played the hell out of that, and still get sucked back into it from time to time.

There's Radiant Dawn on the Wii, which is a full sequel to the GameCube title Path of Radiance.
There's even a special dialogue that can only be unlocked by having a GameCube memory card plugged in and containing a completed game save file of Path of Radiance.
