I actually think F-Zero has aged extremely well, if that game had multiplayer (like the japanese only F-Zero 2) than it would probably still be my most played racing game. Just play it - and you doubters will see how awesome it still is to play!

About the DKC-games, I somehow agree that the first one should be on the list, mostly because of the impact it had, but also because it simply felt more polished. However, even though both the second and third game definitely improved a lot of things, like now having meaningful secrets to find and in general more creative level design, I feel that their focus on other types of levels than the standard palttforming fare makes them more a chore to play than the original. Also, the second game has a much darker tone than the first one, which in my opinion does not suit the series at all, and both of them removed the awesome Cranky-stages (or made them much less awesome) were you would simply be beaten up by Cranky for how poor a player you were compared to him. However, I do like the way the map-system evolved, and the third game actually has an almost Super Mario World-esque map-system, which is awesome. Also, Dixie is great to play with, so that is an improvement as well, but overall I think the first game deserves the top spot - just in front of the third, followed by the second last.

F-Zero is fantastic. One of the best uses of Mode 7 ever.

F-Zero is great, yet a little dull. You love it for the graphics and the speed but the programming is not the best in the world. For instance you are unable to build up some lead if you ever noticed that. I'm not entirely sure what is the parameter for another glider to catch up. Whatever you could drive 2000 mph (wich is impossible) for 2 rounds bump in the 3 round into a wall once or twice and another glider will instantly appear and take your position.

It's called Rubber Band AI. Nintendo racing games are notorious for it.

Super Mario Kart has the same rubber-band AI, and I also think this is a problem in the more newer games in both series. This is definitely annoying, but I would say the good clearly outweighs the bad in this case, as the sense of speed and control in unparalleled. Also, F-Zero GX is to dam hard, fuck that shitty game.

and I am not sure why I thought of this, but a game that I thought was very fun and innovative, but I am sure I may very much be in the minority opinion on this was Uniracers

Uniracers is a good and innovative game, but not top 10-material in my opinion.

The AI is arguably more annoying in Mario, especially later ones, because you can't build up a lead, and then you get hit by a blue shell and suddenly you're in 6th.

I thought F-Zero was awesome as well. Don't know about top ten material but it's still very good. Also I think Secret of Mana should be on list.

Agreed.

F-Zero was also one of the first games for the SNES I ever played. I loved it, even though I sucked at it at the time.

That list is missing the baddest dude in the room: Konami! Contra3, Gradius 3, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Axelay, Super fuckingsaiyan Castlevania 4, --who could ask for more.

lists are dumb/

Very true. In Super Mario Kart for SNES, when playing in the higher difficulties (150 cc), if you fall behind, there isn't much you can do to get back into first place. You're dicked.

I guess that's why I always liked Diddy Kong Racing a lot more than the Super Mario Kart games. None of that blue turtle shell shit and you can actually build an impressive lead, assuming you're not fucking with Wizpig.

Well, the game is not shitty of course, but just unlocking every track in that game is a nightmare (and I still haven't unlocked the Arcade-tracks), and I also did not really care about the music which is an important part of F-Zero. So stoked for a Wii U-sequel though.

Oh. and I agree about Konami. Contra 3 is definitely top 10 material, and Super Castlevania 4 is not far behind either.

I never played Mario Kart, Earthbound or Mario World 2: Yoshi's Thingy. Of course I would object to Super Mario World being on the top ten. Then again I always thought the Mario games were overrated.

Anyway, no Mega Man games?

I would like to disagree, DK1 is the pinnacle, 2 and 3 while great games, did not build upon the concept in any way, all I saw them do was change the sprites.

The puzzles and the interactions between the player character and the environment and the bonus games all were static in my opinion and never really matured or evolved, nothing really changed but who you were playing and the background that scrolled while you did so.

Plus the visuals on 2 and 3 seemed dirtier or grungier or more washed out or whatever you want to call it, they looked shittier than the first. The only thing I remember getting more advanced was the map navigation, instead of L-R-U-D directions sending you along a predetermined path to the next level you got to swim around and later tool around in a boat of some sorts freely in the map of DK3, which really just wasted damn time.

1. DK coins
2. Team-up ability
3. Bonus coins
4. An actual indication of where you missed secrets (DKC3 by the flags and the DK symbol beside level name)
5. Item system and currency for items
6. Subtle differences, like landscapes, the bramble levels where the brambles kill you, the ghost levels where the ropes are ghosts which fade in and out, the difference in enemies, the differences in bosses which all don't require you to just jump on them.

Only slight changes: why fix what isn't broken?

I like DKC but i feel that the following two games are a lot better.

I like DKC 1 the most, for the simple reason that you can't fly.
Sounds stupid. Well maybe it is, but it grew up with classic platforming jump n runs.
Wich means just jumping and running. Thats enough. I also prefer the style of the original because it looks more realistic. I don't know DKC2 and 3 looks a little like one of those animated clay cartoons and thinking of them just makes me sick.

Super Mario World is not at all overrated, I would rather say it is underrated by lots of people today since its "just another 2d mario-game". It might not be the most creative snes game, but it is by far the one I replay the most, and no other plattform game comes close to the level design, control and sheer awesomeness that is Super Mario World. Personally I would have Super Mario World as number 1, but I can understand why people would put A Link to the Past, Super Metroid and Final Fantasy III over hit. However, 4th spot is the least it should get on a snes-list imo.

I agree with most of these points (however, the first game also had indication on where you needed to go for secrets, the !-mark after the name of the level!). However, as I wrote earlier in this thread, what I prefer about the first game is that there is more focus on pure plattforming stages, compared to especially the second which took the barrel-stages totally overbord. While variation is fine, I felt that to many of the levels in DKC2 had some kind of irritating theme, which just worked to slow the game down. Also, the atmosphere is really dark in the second game, which does not fit the series at all imo. The third game did make up for both these mistakes somehow, and also has a much improved map-system, but the game feels a bit less inspired than the two first.

So in conclusion:
-The first game came first
-The first game has the most fitting graphics for a game like this, with nice and colourful graphics, which gives it the best atmosphere by far (while the second game, on the other hands, has by far the worst atmosphere as it is much to dark for its own good).
The first game has the best humor, represented by Cranky Kong's great tip-giving and Donkey-beating stages.
-The first game has the best music (but this is really close with the second)
-The first game has the most fun to play levels.
-The second game has the most creative, but also the most slow levels
-The second and third game has much better collectibles which are actually meaningful
-The second and third game both have a great secret world to play after getting all collectibles, and also a better ending if you get it.
-The second and third game both have Dixie which is a joy to play
-The third game has the best map-system

However, the most important of these points are really the level-design, and the first game trumps its successors there. So I would say the ranking goes like this:

DKC>DKC3>DKC2

Yoshi is the most annoying game mechanic of all time and Super Mario World was where he was first seen. As far as I am concerned, the game fails outright for adding a mount to Mario.

How this list considers F-Zero, Starfox, Donkey Kong Country, or Super Mario World 2 top 10 games is just flat out sad. Perhaps to little kids that is true now, but to those who grew up with the system I refuse to believe that any of those titles were a top 10 game.

Considerable omissions:
* Final Fantasy 2 (IV)
* Secret of Mana
* Chrono Trigger
* Street Fighter II Turbo
* Lufia
* Lufia 2

I would have rated the list like this:

1. FF 2 (IV)
2. LoZ LTTP
3. Super Metroid
4. FF 3 (VI)
5. Secret of Mana
6. Lufia 2 (sorry Douche, but at least it made my list)
7. Chrono Trigger
8. Lufia
9. Street Fighter II Turbo
10. Super Mario Kart

Also, Syd, as far as I am aware FF 2/3, Secret of Mana, LTTP, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and several others all used Mode 7. Perhaps not to the same exaggerated end result as F-Zero... but they were all better games.

It isn't my fault that the system catered to RPGs. Almost every other system over time had a balance of quality games across various genres... but the majority of the best SNES games were RPGs.

Also, as far as Super Mario RPG is concerned... the gameplay of SMB is truly amazing, however as a character in a world with dialog, Mario is a lame hero in a lame world. The game could be magnificent, but no amount of writing can help Mario's story be compelling.

Also considering the Top 100 list has 5 RPG's in the top 10 as well says something. Sadly Lufia II is not on the sites top 10. Sad
