It really is, I've put so many hours into practicing parrying, there's just something theraputic about it. I've parried every Super Art Combo that can be parried. Dropping it in SFIV was a huge disappointment for me. I just can't see the practicality of focus attacks.

It is therapeutic. You almost need premonition so you have to be all zenned out to parry real well.

I have also put many hours into practicing parrying, unfortunately I had very few people to play and use it against. Now that it's going online I am pumped to parry all over people.

I'm not going to win a single match online against you people, and I can't even blame it on lag this time.

Parrying is a fine mechanic, but it keeps some players from getting any better as they can't get used to it ever. It doesn't help that people like to call it "unique" when Samurai Shodown had the same damn thing in the form of "Just Defense';

Right, but there is nothing more satisfying than playing another opponent whom understands parrying and all it's variations (air and ground). They make for thrilling matches.

You seem to put that in a way that other fighting games can't have epic matches as well though. I like Street Fighter III: TS don't get me wrong, but I've always found it a tad overrated by the community since the balance isn't any better than other games and I find the matches to be a bit on the slow side. Then again I'm a SNK person, so I probably shouldn't be talking...

Not at all, I play MvC2 probably much more. Just saying, I love parrying.

It's a shame that isn't as impressive as it used to be. It's always funny seeing Justin Wong get crushed by everyone who full-parries him.

Don't you mean Garou: MotW?

And yeah, I can't do parrying at all except for those "random moments" where it's accidental. It's one of the reasons why I don't play SF3 much, aside from some of the ugly looking weirder characters, and the fact that I only ever played Ryu, Ken, and Yun.

There's more to that daigo/wong match than just that video.

Yeah, but you miss out if the hilarity before and after, like raih shouting "fuck you daigo!" fir no reason in broken English, justin wong jumping up and down like a kid, pissing off raoh with his bad sportsmanship, and then losing while daigo parrys every hot of the super that wong used to beat raoh. Wong freaking out and slamming the buttons, as if it would somehow stop him from getting parried is funny too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XSojusRTEo&feature=youtube_gdata

someone in the crowd yelled "let's go, Justin!" right before he launched the super that would get parried, incidentally leading to him throwing the move out a lot less. This became such a joke that there were actually t shirts made with ken parrying that say "let's go Justin!" on them. This also led to people yelling it as a joke during casuals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjwlHeaJNYc&feature=youtube_gdata

raoh's friend kuroba would later annihalate wong at another event, talking shit and making fun of him the entire time. He did funny things with his q, like poke with crouching mk, Which is what wong does with his chun li.

Never saw the first video there, FNJ. Pretty funny to see Wong button-mashing while getting stomped, but hey, I'm not very good so I'd probably do the same thing.

That third video - and I must mention the immediate triple taunt is hilarious - I saw uploaded on another YouTube account with the tag of "Q being awesome".

Yeah, I'm not exactly a god at parrying. While I have parried them all at some point, there's a lot of them that I'll fuck up half way 9 times out of 10. To be fair, Chun-Li's are the hardest in my opinion. All the fireball SA's are a sinch.

It's like slamming the brake as you veer off a cliff. It's stupid, but it's just instinct.

It would be nice to see some of the SFII characters in those awesome SFIII sprites, with some chars from SF Alpha and SFIV as well (especially Gouken, his appearence would match with 3rd strike pretty damn well).

And SFIII is by far my favorite SF game, altough I am not really good at parrying.

Welcome new member of the community. I'm very glad to hear that SFIII is also your favorite Street Fighter game. I already think you are awesome. That alone sounds like enough reason for you to vote for The Metal Shark Players in our forum battle this year. It's easy, just follow this link:

I look forward to your participation on our fine forums and thanks for kicking ass!

Preng puts a quarter into the slot and revives this year-old thread.

More details about Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition have slowly been released. Still no release date, although:

If you haven't seen the game's trailer, then you should totally do so. Hype and stuff!

Kotaku's got a video featuring Capcom's Seth Killian showing off some of the game's additions. If you pause the video at 05:36, you'll notice that one of the new Parry Trial scenarios is none other than Daigo Umehara's famous parry against Justin Wong.

iPlayWinner has most of the same details if that's your fancy. They've also got some artwork that Capcom commissioned from deviantArtist Antgerm.

You can check out a few images of the game and a few other random notes from Siliconera.

Anyways, I'm most curious about the game's inclusion of DLC. So far Capcom has been pretty hush-hush about such plans. It's unlikely, but perhaps content from New Generation and Second Impact may show up?

As crazy as it sounds, I'm not planning on purchasing this. I don't really care about a new coat of paint being added or trials and trophies and stuff. I was really hoping for the NG and SI content as well. And I know it's unreasonable, but I was secretely hoping for at least a new character. I would prefer something along the lines of Fourth Strike, though I won't give my hopes up. I'm sure the NG and SI stuff will be DLC, so I'll hold off until I see what that is. As for now, I don't see any need for me to have this. Here's hoping it succeeds though, maybe then we'll get Q in SSFIV.

Street fighter III still gets me to post. I'm excited about this. A parry training mode is something I really wanted, and a large online base means I don't have to harangue my friends into playing third strike on my PS2 when I want multiplayer.

Also, I had never seen the Q vs Ken video, and that fills my heart with joy. Partly cause its one of my favorite characters beating up one of my least favorite, and partly because beating someone with a real low tier character like Q or Hugo is a fantastic taunt.

My fav SF is still Zero 2 Alpha (a weird choice, I know), but I'll probably succumb to temptation and pick this up.
