No, you don't need to upgrade. I have a 2004 Nintendo DS, the bulky one in my right hand. In my left hand, I have GTA: Chinatown Wars, a game that came out last year.

By combining the two, I find that the first iteration of the Nintendo DS hardware is able to play the latest games with absolutely no problem at all.

If you go watch the trailer somewhere that isn't the press conference you'll see him, along with Pit turned into an Eggplant. It was at the very end of the trailer and they cut it during the conference.

Also, I dunno what all the moaning about new releases is. Unless it's a full console update (which happens with home platforms too), the only difference is aesthetics and size -- it plays the same games. The DS as a platform is what, six years old? It still runs the most modern handheld games Nintendo produces because every other rerelease after it is the same thing. DSi is barely an upgrade -- I own one, and the DSi-specific features do nothing. Sure you can buy DSiWare, but there's maybe... one really truly great game there.

With Nintendo, you can buy the first incarnation of a system and you'll be fine until the entire line is retired. If my DS Phat hadn't broken, I'd still be using it today.

I want another fat DS. I like its GBA slot better than the Lite.

I like the fact that it HAD a GBA slot. Nintendo really fucked us on that one... If this 3DS is going to be compatible with regular DS games, I want the GBA slot back. The ass holes.

I love my fat DS. It went through so much... My friend crushed its top screen with a monitor, so I replaced it with two Lite screens. Then I dropped it into a toilet by accident. Works like a charm.

The next thing I have to do with this little bastard is to replace the battery. It finally crapped out on me.

I want the 3DS to be even half that sturdy. It would still be impressive.

Yeah, each Nintendo portable (except the DSi) is historically compatible with the handheld game generation directly previous to it. So assume you'll have DS compatibility and realize that you absolutely will not have GBA compatibility.

Kid Icarus, too little, too late. WTF Nintendo? It takes this long to push out another game? This would be more exciting to me if they actually kept me interested in the franchise instead of ignoring it for 20 years. Still, it's the wife's all time favorite game and we shall be buying it.

this game looks bad. graphics are mediocre, gameplay looks stupid, story will be stupid, no doubts here and the enemys look mostly like Kingdom Hearts ripp offs (they even got a cerberus endboss! in every KH game is a cerberus endboss at the colosseum). This game will suck.

im surprised you wouldnt expect cerberus in there. he is, after all, a part of greek mythology.

that colosseum you're talking about, its also from greek mythology. hercules, is from greek mythology.

thats why cerberus appears in KH too.

joshwoodzy: i would appreciate to be taking serious for what i write and not for how i write it. i can understand if this may be a little tough but i'am both new to your board and to your language. it would be very kind of you.

but lets get back to the subject. can anyone tell me why he thinks that this game will be oustanding or worth buying, except to satisfie his nostalgic aptitude? i really don't get it this time.

i have to admit that i'am seriously bored by the games of today. thats why i easely go into heavy critic when a game doesn't look satisfing at the first look. live with it. i like this board. I'll certainly not leave.

No one's telling you to. I'm not excited with most of today's offerings myself, which is why today I find myself mostly playing games more than five years old. I don't have any nostalgia for Kid Icarus. I just think it looks exciting, being reminiscent of other games I really enjoyed. There aren't many other Sin & Punishment clones out there so I'll take what I can get.

I'm a little surprised that we're getting a new game for an IP that died 20 years ago and wasn't particularly popular then either, but if it's good then I'm sold. To me, it'd be like Sega announcing a new Alex Kidd or Wonder Boy game.

It looks like they are taking Kid Icarus into Zeldaish territory with this new game, which could be very interesting. It seems to be a bit more platform heavy than Zelda titles. Flying looks sweet!

Yea, I sorta know what your saying, but I'll take it. Like Excel said, this might as well be an entirely new IP for a huge section of the gaming population.

They should have done a Kid Icarus on the N64, then this game would feel right at home. It looks pretty good though.

Well it is too little Syd, it's a handheld game. Is the Wii good for anything besides Mario, Zelda and simulated masturbating? I havn't turned mine on in 3 months. I would have rather seen a solid platformer on the Wii, there is a severe lack of outstanding platformers out there, and I think this could have been made into one.

Well, The 360 is nothing but a wasteland of drab, gray, shooters.

And the answer to your question is yes, there are plenty of interesting exclusives including Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Muramasa, Monster Hunter Tri and Madworld to name a few.

But you are right, the first-party Nintendo made games tend to be superior to their third-party counterparts. Nintendo knows how to develop for their hardware the best.
