I LOLed when I saw it the first time. The show is great, and while I did like the British version better at first, the American version really has grown into its own really great show. Plus, half the cast is from Massachusetts.

I love The Office, most people at my work place have pictures of their family at their desks, I have a framed picture of Dwight Schrute.
Check out "Prison Mike" from season 2 and "Dinner Party" from season 4. Just 2 really good ones I can think of off the top of my head.
okay, i've seen episodes of the office before and didn't laugh much. But i have to admit, that last bit at the end was priceless.
Links, pics, vids . . . I shall post these when given the chance

The Office would be sweeter without Jim. But then again, his and Pam's relationship is sort of the nucleus of the show, so I guess that won't ever happen. I just hate his character so much, the way he glances at the camera everytime there is a joke, you can set your clock by it.

I don't know... if everyone was playing the awkward character, who would point out the awkwardness?

Yeah Jim is supposed to be the one the audience can relate to and the looking into the camera thing is their version of the laugh track.

And it's stupid. It's an insult to the audiences intelligence when the main character has to look at the camera awkwardly every time there is a joke or funny moment. They might as well put the "Wha Wha Wha" sound effect in there too.

I dunno i think he there to have someone to relate to among the madness. Without him i think the show would just be a gaggle of annoying people making it unwatchable

You need to think about it in terms with the nature of the show. The Office is essentially a mockumentary if you think about it, so if Jim is the only person in the office that sees the irony or awkwardness of the situation, he relates to the camera as well as the audience relating to Jim. Especially because Pam's gone, there is no one else to be in on his jokes/realizations except the camera. I know I would do the same thing in his position because I often feel like I'm the only one that gets certain jokes or seeing something in a situation that may not be obvious to everyone else.

Are you saying that you pretend that there is a camera following you around?

I'm not saying it isn't necessary I'm just saying that it tends to get old. Ya know?

The first time I saw The Office, I did'nt really get it either. It is a little different in that it is a sitcom with no laugh-track style setting. After several more viewings of the show I soon found that this show is the greatest thing since Jack Burton. As for Jim, he is essential for the ongoing battle between him and Dwight. You can watch full episodes on the shows website...Bears, Beats, Battlestar Galactica.

Love this show. One of my absolute favorites.
Also, I harbor a serious celebrity crush on Jenna Fischer.
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I feel like a lot of guys really like her. I think she is fairly attractive, but I don't have that same crush that so many others do.

The Office is pretty much the only half hour sitcom I can watch these days (that and Philadelphia).
This season is essentially a soap opera geared toward getting people to gossip about it at work the next day. I'm not complaining. I love it. Plus, I have ins into conversations with people that I used to struggle to come up with a non-nerdy subject to bring up. Thanks for making my social life easier, Greg.
In related news, the Office Spinoff is canceled... Kind of. It actually will now have nothing to do with the Office. It will still co-star Rashida Jones.

Boy that was worth dragging up a year old thread to say.
Care to be more specific perhaps?

I hate that too. This along with Scrubs really pains me to watch. People consider these shows "clever" and are shocked that I don't like them, saying that "I don't get the humor". Well, yes indeed I get the humor, it's redundant and mind numbingly overdone, I TRIED to like the show, but it always felt like the same plot over and over again with minor tweeks. Plus, I never liked Carrell other than his time on The Daily Show.

I have been loving the show. I'm not sure what you guys want it to be, but I think it has been steady with its delivery since its inception in the US. I make no claims about the difference between the foreign program that preceded it and our domestic version.

Well, it can't please everyone. I'm fine with it, although it does irritate me that TBS has put it on their evening lineup at 5 pm, it doesn't fit in the lineup that is made up of mostly sitcoms.

There isn't much of a difference actually, except that the British series only ran for two seasons, 12 episodes. The American series has the exact same mockumentary gimmick, vibe, and character personalities as the British one so the two shows are pretty much identical. The first episode of the American series is pretty much an exact carbon copy of the first British one with many of the other British storylines rehashed into the American one at one point or another.
So basically, if you've only seen the American version, you've seen the British one too.

I've heard good things about it but have yet to watch it, I spend entirely too much time in an office and want nothing to do with one when I'm off.
