Bullshit. The real New SMB2 would take place in Subcon.

" It will be the first retail 3DS title to also be released as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop on the day of its release.[9]"

Interesting. I'll always rather have a physical copy but still, it's cool they offer the choice.

Well, now that I have found my 3DS, I will be able to take a look at it. I'll go digital download, since everyone in the IRC channel knows what happened to my original NSMB cartridge. Also, digital downloads are much more convenient for me, since I live half an hour from a gaming store.

And it's not being touted as the third game because...?

Because this will be the third version of New Super Mario Bros.

It's only the second one on a handheld though, so I'm pretty sure that's why it's considered "2".

Also, as I said in the 3DS thread, I am looking forward to this because I like 2D Mario platforming games. It should be way harder than Super Mario 3D Land, which is a good thing.

I'm aware of that, but it would make no sense for this one to be part 3. It's clear that the DS one's are separate from the consoles.

Super Metroid was the second game in the series on a console, but, due to Metroid II: Return Of Samus, which was on a handheld system, it identified itself as Metroid 3 before the real title showed. Just because this is the reverse of that situation doesn't mean Nintendo should confuse its consumer base, unless they plan on putting out NSMB Wii U.

NSMB Wii U was announced last year at E3.

And yeah, this is a direct sequel to NSMB, hence the 2.

I was really pissed when Mario Kart 3D was called Mario Kart 7, because 7th game or not, that's not how the naming for that series has EVER worked.

Those games were also following a set story, unlike Mario. Is there really a reason to number the Mario games like that? Honestly?

So NSMB and NSMB Wii will be like Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Adventure, in that they initially appeared to be progenitor and sequel, but then both received sequels, thus making them both progenitors of different series in the same franchise?

I really hope Mario has to rescue the princess again. If he doesn't, I'm gonna cry.

I don't suppose you care for those who call it Mortal Kombat 9, then?

Right? That's what I thought it was at first and was all excited. Then I read that and was decidedly less so. Sigh.

That's understandable though because simply titling a new game the same thing as the first game is annoying because you need a way to differentiate them. Examples like Sonic the Hedgehog or the new Twisted Metal. You have to call them Sonic 2006 or Twisted Metal 2012. How hard is it to just give the game a subtitle? They aren't remakes so you can't call them the same thing.

I know! That's one of my biggest peeves. I don't like using unofficial titles or initialisms unless they're used by the game itself.

Anyone excited about this should play Super Mario Bros. then play New Super Mario Bros Wii right after. If you are still excited YOU JUST DON'T GET IT.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was loads of fun, if not slightly easy. The original NSMB was both easy and shitty. And boring. And awful.
