Way to many sports games and DKC on place 95 is just redundant.
I found out that the game i used to play on the SNES that creeped me out was Solstice II, because there was a picture in the list.

1996 is way to early to be listing the 100 Best SNES games. I realize it was probably done at N64 launch, but still.
Also, Super Parodius isn't a real game. It's just called Parodius.
DKC at 95? WTF?
Side Pocket? UGH.
The list seems to favor games made by European developers, and several games on the list were exempt from my list by virtue of not being released on the SNES in North America.
Spike McFang was a good pick.
Rampart is an ugly PC port. Civilization also sucked on the SNES. Theme Park too? Jesus Christ.
Doom at 17. WTF? There is some incredibly fucked up placement and picks in their top 20.
Hmmm, well I guess if Brits living in 1996 who had a major hard-on for Virgin, Ubisoft, Codemasters, Ocean, and Konami, and insistence on using the Japanese names of games whenever possible made a list, this how it would turn out.

You also have to appreciate the inverse.
Games which ranked highly in Syds list were never released here. Like EARTHBOUND for one, i don't even know why it was on list? Also notice that there is no Megaman games?
Megaman wasn't and still isn't really that popular in Europe. Also we obviously never got Baseball, Hockey or (American) Football games, as they aren't popular sports here. THough i guess Ice Hockey has a slight popularity.
It was basically a totally different culture for games here.
Let's look at this sites top 10.
10: Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting - released here
9: EarthBound - not released PAL
8: Final Fantasy II - not released PAL
7: Mega Man X - not a popular game series
6: Chrono Trigger - released here
5: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - not released PAL
4: Super Mario World - released here
3: Final Fantasy III - not released PAL
2: Super Metroid - released here
1: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - released here.
Maybe that should give you a picture of why the list is what it is.
4/10 weren't even released here.

It's strange to me that Mega Man X wasn't popular in its day. That's when I found it. Then again, I kinda cheated...

Actually, they became N64 Magazine, which became NGC Magazine, which became NGamer.

So they're not defunct. They just changed their name a few times. In the future, don't lie to us.

Not just Mega Man X.
Mega Man in general.
When i was a kid, no one ever spoke of Mega Man. It was always Sonic and Mario and considering Mega Man is thought to be up their with them.
I didn't even hear of Mega Man until i joined this site.

And to be honest, Here in the US, I rarely ever heard of him until nostalgia for the good old stuff cam back (I'm sure the games sold well, well enough to warrant all of the sequels). It just seems like he is more popular now than he ever was before.

Chrono Trigger in the 30's? Super Metroid at #9? Not a single Mega Man X game?

I liked Solstice II (Equinox). That one actually made my personal top 10. Hard as hell game though. Beat it only once.
Overall however I think that list eats balls.

Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting is more overrated on that list than on Syd's.

I thougth it was plainly weird. Everything just seemed so random. You walk a round with no idea where to go to, you enter that pyramid, you go to that lake and nothing effects anything. Then suddenly a giant green undefinable monster attacks you and you're dead.
Nice game.

World Masters Golf, they actually put a fucking GOLF GAME on a list of 100 Best SNES Games
and for that matter a football game on the SNES that isn't TECMO BOWL game
I second Syd's hatred of the horrific Rampart PC port
Tiny Toon adventures and fucking Plok! I mean, fuck
sorry I know excessive swearing but ugh
and this is just the Highlights of the Crappiest on this list

You can tell this bullshit list was made right around the end of the SNES era when half the list consists of sports games. They hadn't quite had enough time to get boring yet. Go to a pawn shop now. If they have any used SNES games their stock consists of 40 sports games and maybe 1 mediocre non-sports game.

Dude, read the posts. This was a European list, and obviously, this list depends on what was released/popular over there. This is also before roms, so imagine what your top 100 would have looked like in 1996.
As for the article itself, it was pretty badly written, with lame jokes and bad grammar, but it was nice to see some games I've never heard of in there.

Plok and Tiny Toons Adventures are decent games. And yeah, as a European myself, I know better than anyone that a lot of the games that dominates the top on Syd's list were never released over here.

Why isn't Asterisk on the list? Europeans love Asterisk.
